A baby room in its own building, individual gardens and an allotment give Bright Horizons Kenilworth a recognisable outdoor character. The refurbished historic school building on Beehive Hill accommodates children from 3 months to 5 years, with different environments for babies, toddlers and preschool children. Outdoor space is part of the room layout, rather than simply a shared destination.
At its 17 May 2023 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good, found safeguarding effective and praised the planning of learning and support for children with special educational needs and disabilities, while identifying improvements needed in early vocabulary and children's understanding of different families. That judgement is dated. A later organisational safeguarding notice issued in June 2026 is a material consideration for families and is explained below.
The baby room occupies a separate building and has a private garden, with activities shaped around children's interests and routines. That physical separation gives the youngest children their own environment rather than a corner of the main building.
In the Toddler room, children can move freely between a playroom, garden, Forest School and allotment area, bringing indoor play and outdoor exploration into the same part of the day.
The preschool room connects freely to an outdoor classroom with play resources, alongside an emphasis on preparation for children's next stage. Across the nursery, each age-specific room has its own garden access. For parents comparing environments, these connections are more useful detail than the building's spaciousness alone.
EYFS provides the shared early years framework for learning through play, including communication, physical development and early literacy and mathematics. Alongside it, the group-wide Nurture Approach adds creative activities intended to develop skills and confidence, with attention to wellbeing and transitions between rooms or towards school. Its practical value lies in how those activities respond to an individual child.
Boogie Mites brings music and songs into learning about the world. Forest School adds outdoor skills taught by a leader, while the allotment and Vegetable Garden provide further spaces for exploration. A Mud Kitchen and Water Play extend the choice of hands-on experiences. Children can work with sound, movement and outdoor materials rather than encounter learning only through adult conversation.
In May 2023, story play included The Gruffalo, recreated in a sand tray with character pictures on wooden spoons. Preschool children explored number order using a clock made with wooden numerals and practised writing through shopping lists on large boards. These examples connect familiar play with remembering stories, recognising numbers and using print for a purpose.
During that same month, babies went outdoors daily and practised balance on a small bridge. Toddlers moved between indoor and outdoor activities, and staff used signing to help communication and routines. These are examples from that period, rather than a timetable for today's children.
In May 2023, children built relationships with a key person and other practitioners, and parents had opportunities for daily conversations about care and learning. A family room gave parents somewhere to wait during the early settling period. That arrangement made space for the parent's adjustment as well as the child's.
The group-wide Family app now gives parents updates about children's experiences and development. It provides a way to remain connected during the nursery day, alongside the importance of direct discussion about a child's routines and needs.
In May 2023, staff worked with parents and other professionals to adapt learning for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Sleeping babies received regular checks, and personal care was handled with sensitivity. These dated examples help families understand the care arrangements observed then, but they should be read alongside the later regulatory position.
In its outcome dated 22 June 2026, Ofsted disclosed a Welfare Requirements Notice concerning the organisation's safeguarding leadership, oversight and practice, with actions due by 1 August 2026, while explicitly explaining that the organisational findings did not represent concerns at every individual setting. The notice required more consistent implementation of safeguarding procedures, better oversight of concerns and risks, appropriate escalation of allegations, and stronger monitoring of training and supervision.
The latest published position is that June notice and its stated action deadline. It cannot establish whether those actions were subsequently completed. For a family choosing Kenilworth, the distinction matters: an organisational notice is material, but it is not a new inspection judgement on this branch.
The nursery is at Beehive Hill, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 1BW. Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. It operates across the year, closing for one inset day, bank and public holidays, and the period between Christmas and New Year. Those closures need to fit a family's wider childcare arrangements.
Funded childcare uses 10-hour sessions beginning at the nursery's opening time. Attendance outside that funded session is charged separately, and buying additional hours is not a condition of taking a funded place. This distinction is useful for parents whose working day extends beyond their funded attendance.
A dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone supports journeys by car. Kenilworth station is nearby, with links to the city centre; the nursery also sits near the countryside.
Both private childcare and funded hours are offered. Funding arrangements include 30 hours for eligible children from 9 months and at age 2, plus 15-hour and 30-hour arrangements for children aged 3 to 5. Funded entitlement is stretched across 50 weeks, so it follows a different annual pattern from a term-time allocation.
For private care, fees include meals and snacks, nappies, wipes and formula for babies under 1 year, subject to the nursery's stated caveat about individual exceptions. Food is prepared in the onsite kitchen; during funded hours it is charged separately, with a non-mandatory food charge that is not a condition of accessing a funded place.
Consumables associated with funded hours are supplied by Bright Horizons. Additional private hours remain separate from the funded entitlement. A registration charge applies, and payment is taken in advance through monthly direct debit. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation.
Kenilworth suits families seeking care across the year, with a separate baby environment and substantial opportunities to move between indoor and outdoor learning. Its private-care offer and stretched funded sessions serve different childcare budgets, while Boogie Mites, Forest School and the allotment give the day concrete variety.
The May 2023 picture contains useful strengths and clear improvement points. The June 2026 organisational safeguarding notice carries greater weight in a current decision than the May 2023 inspection judgement alone. A family's assessment should bring the physical environment, attendance terms and response to that notice together.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 17 May 2023. A subsequent organisational Welfare Requirements Notice dated 22 June 2026 concerned safeguarding arrangements across the provider and did not identify concerns at every individual setting.
Children can attend from 3 months to 5 years. The baby room has a separate building and private garden, followed by the Toddler room and preschool room.
