St Michael's Pre-School

The observed detail was strong. Children watched dough-shaping demonstrations before following spoken instructions to roll, press and shape it. Elsewhere, they poured rice with jugs and scoops, made marks and discussed them, and used stones, shells, flowers and pine cones to create pictures about family and home. Rearranged rooms also made books easier to reach.

Safeguarding was effective at the December 2021 inspection. Staff knew children's needs, had improved their understanding of possible abuse indicators and understood how to report concerns. Leaders regularly reviewed practice, and the team changed arrangements that proved ineffective.

Children settled securely and behaved kindly towards one another. Staff worked with parents and other professionals, identified gaps in learning and directed additional funding towards individual needs, including support for children learning English as an additional language.
