Poems, rhymes and models of London landmarks give this nursery’s wider early-years setting its character. At the February 2024 inspection, early-years children made models, explained their ideas and learned together. That makes communication a useful thread for parents to follow through the provision.
The school accommodates children aged 3 to 7, with nursery provision forming part of that setting. In February 2024, Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Outstanding. That judgement covers early years across the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Language gives practical activity a clear purpose. In February 2024, early-years children were making models representing London landmarks and explaining how they joined the materials. The example brings together construction and spoken explanation: making something also gives children something concrete to talk about.
Adults chose their language carefully and taught children how to express themselves. Children spoke with confidence about what they were doing. For a parent, the useful detail is the connection between an activity and the conversation around it, rather than construction being treated simply as an end product.
Reading, poetry and rhymes also mattered to the children. Their enjoyment of reading, poems and rhymes gave another route into language, alongside talking about their play. These are different opportunities to use words: explaining an idea, enjoying a story and joining in a rhyme.
The early-years classroom supported busy, cooperative play and learning. Children worked alongside others, combining involvement in activities with opportunities to communicate. This is the clearest picture of the learning environment: a classroom where making, talking and shared play belong together.
Settling was a strength of early years in February 2024. Children became comfortable quickly and developed concentration and involvement in learning. For families considering a first school setting, that finding matters because becoming settled is the starting point for taking part in the day.
Staff attended to children’s development across its different aspects. The combination of cooperative play, careful adult language and confident child talk gives concrete examples of that attention. Care and learning connect here through helping children participate, communicate and become involved with other children, rather than through academic activity alone.
Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately for Reception through the normal admissions route and meet the normal deadline. Choosing this nursery therefore needs to work as a decision about the nursery experience itself.
The distinction matters even when nursery and infant education share a school identity. A child’s experience in nursery and the allocation of a Reception place are separate questions; attendance must not be treated as securing the next place.
