Nursery at Broomwood Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Songs, shared stories and early conversation give Broomwood’s youngest children a clear starting point. The provision at this Timperley primary school includes Pre-school for two-year-olds alongside Nursery places for children aged three and four. These are distinct options, with their own application forms and attendance arrangements.
Language gives the early years day its strongest thread. In May 2024, Ofsted described carefully planned opportunities for even the youngest children to explore sounds through singing and books, developing their speech and understanding. For parents, that means early learning includes listening, joining in and talking about stories.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision also includes Talk Boost, a programme supporting speech and communication. Wellcomm assessments take place each term, with activities and additional help linked to what they reveal. This gives staff a way to identify language needs and respond through the child’s learning.
Classroom equipment makes the daily routine more visible: visual timetables sit alongside displayed vocabulary, fiddle toys and an emotional regulation box. These concrete supports can help children understand what happens next and manage their feelings. Sharing and waiting for a turn are also part of early years learning, giving children practice in being together as a group.
Curriculum planning. The May 2024 inspection identified a school curriculum concern: essential knowledge needed clearer definition in a minority of subjects, leaving some pupils’ understanding insufficiently developed. This was a school-level improvement requirement, rather than a separate Nursery judgement.
In May 2024, early years children enjoyed attending, and staff used consistent routines alongside caring relationships. Those routines matter when a young child is adjusting to a group setting: familiar expectations provide a dependable shape to the day.
Support includes an ELSA-trained teaching assistant working on emotional development in the early years. Children needing specialist language help can be referred for speech and language assessment, followed by an individual programme where required. Additional needs, including those of early years children, were carefully identified in May 2024.
For children receiving SEN support, parents are invited to contribute to One Page Profiles annually, and Learning Plans are reviewed each term. That gives families a defined part in describing their child’s needs and reviewing the support. The school’s approach also recognises home languages, with multilingual books allocated to classrooms and letters translated on request where possible.
Lunch brings a practical choice. Nursery children staying over lunchtime may bring food from home or have a school dinner; the latter carries an additional charge.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal school admissions process. Broomwood’s Reception admissions information directs families to Trafford Council, so treat that application as a separate task from booking Nursery.
Apply by the deadline for your child’s entry year. The dated application timetable for September 2022 should not be used for a future intake.
For two-year-olds, Pre-school session options are 8.30am to 11.30am, 12.30pm to 3.30pm, or a full day from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Funded part-time and paid full-time places are offered. Starts fall after the second birthday, on 1 September, 1 January or 1 April, subject to space.
Nursery offers a 15-hour model and 30-hour provision for eligible working parents. Families outside the eligibility rules can book paid top-up provision from 11.30am to 3.30pm. A full week is preferred; a minimum of three fixed sessions may be agreed at the headteacher’s discretion. That arrangement suits a recurring weekly pattern.
Use the relevant Nursery or Pre-school application form and return it to school, or email broomwood.admin@trafford.gov.uk. Contact the school for current charges, including school dinners and additional attendance.
