Purposeful cooperation and familiar routines give Park Road Academy Primary School’s early years provision its character. In November 2023, children worked together productively and showed exceptionally good behaviour. For a child beginning school life, those habits matter: learning to share an activity and follow a routine forms part of the experience alongside learning new ideas.
The Nursery class belongs to the school in Timperley, on Frieston Road. Ofsted graded early years provision Outstanding at the inspection on 21 and 22 November 2023. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Learning starts with a deliberately planned Nursery curriculum. In November 2023, the school had thought carefully about the knowledge children should gain in Nursery and the learning that would follow. This gives the Nursery stage a defined educational purpose, with early learning treated as the beginning of a longer sequence.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings education and care together. Its foundations are language and communication, emotional and social development, and physical development. For parents, this means that expressing an idea, managing a feeling or developing control of a small tool belongs alongside early reading and number work. Literacy, mathematics, creative expression and understanding the world complete the framework.
Play is an essential part of that approach. The EYFS combines children directing their own play with learning guided by adults, allowing exploration and adult support to work together. Its language programme includes stories, rhymes and conversations; physical development includes coordination, balance and using small tools. These are curriculum expectations, rather than a timetable of Nursery sessions.
A specific early years theme here is learning about people who help the community. Within Understanding the World, children explore familiar community roles. It gives an everyday starting point for thinking about other people and the jobs they do.
Skilled adults are a significant strength. In November 2023, the early years team supported children capably as they began school life. Children also learned consideration and kindness from the start of early years, making relationships part of their education.
Within the EYFS approach, the key person’s role connects emotional security with learning: understanding an individual child’s needs helps adults provide appropriate modelling and support. The framework also calls for concerns about development to be discussed with parents so that support can be agreed together.
For special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school has a SEND coordinator. Families can contact the team at sendco@parkroadacademy.co.uk, providing a direct route for discussing their child’s needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process by its applicable deadline. For the 2025–2026 admissions cycle, the application route was through Trafford Council. Treat the Nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions.
