Nursery at Eastbury Community School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Morning or afternoon: Eastbury’s nursery has two distinct session times, giving families a clear starting point for planning childcare around the school day. The provision belongs to the primary phase of Eastbury Community School in Barking. Its entrance is on Wilmington Gardens, rather than the school’s Hulse Avenue postal address, a useful distinction when arranging a visit.
An associate assistant headteacher leads the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This places the nursery within an early-years team and the wider primary leadership structure, with a separate primary SENDCo contact for families concerned about additional needs.
Language is a substantial part of the early-years learning here. At the March 2024 inspection, Ofsted found that children learned successfully across the early-years curriculum and that staff made purposeful use of opportunities to develop communication. For parents, the important point is the attention to children expressing themselves, alongside learning across different areas.
The school describes Maths-No Problem being introduced into the foundation stage, with both play and structured learning prioritised. The curriculum approach connects mathematical understanding with reasoning, rather than treating number work as an isolated exercise. That combination gives a practical sense of the learning balance: play has a place alongside planned teaching.
Eastbury also has its own Forest school, a physical feature of the wider school’s learning environment. Its curriculum links this space with interest in nature and care for the environment. This is separate from the nursery’s session timetable; families should plan around the nursery hours rather than the primary school’s longer day.
Support for additional needs has a clear contact route. Parents can raise concerns through their child’s teacher or contact the primary SENDCo directly. Class teachers monitor children’s needs and discuss concerns with families, while the primary provision draws on the local authority’s SEND department and Local Offer. This gives parents both a school contact and a route to borough support services.
Child protection is organised through a dedicated safeguarding team, including primary designated safeguarding leads. The school’s safeguarding arrangements include staff training and a contact route for anyone worried about a child.
Communication. In March 2024, some parents across the school were unclear about school decisions, and improving communication was an inspection action. That concern belongs to the wider school, but matters when considering how to maintain contact with the nursery team.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route, rather than treating a nursery place as an allocation for the following stage.
For the September 2026 intake, applications went through e-admissions and the deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. The admissions page directs families to Barking and Dagenham’s school admissions service for borough information. Keep the Reception application separate from nursery enquiries and retain the application reference after submitting it.
The morning session runs from 8.30am to 11.30am; the afternoon session runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. These are the nursery-specific times to use when organising collection and other childcare commitments.
Nursery enquiries go to the school office at ped@eastbury.bardaglea.org.uk, or by telephone through the school. The office handles the nursery application process and session enquiries. School visits can also be arranged through this email contact, giving families a direct route to discuss joining.
The morning session is 8.30am to 11.30am, and the afternoon session is 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
