Five mornings or five afternoons give Jump's nursery a regular half-day rhythm, with flexible 30 hour places also offered. This is the nursery attached to Jump Primary Academy on Roebuck Hill in Barnsley, with a maximum of 26 children in each session.
Children can start at the beginning of the term following their third birthday, subject to a place being available. Nursery sits within Phase 1 of the school. For families, the practical choice is between a consistent morning or afternoon pattern and the flexible 30 hour option.
The half-day arrangement means children attend either five morning sessions each week or five afternoon sessions. That gives families a repeated weekly pattern around which to organise other care. Flexible 30 hour places provide another attendance option.
For children staying over lunchtime, the nursery lunch period runs from 11:30 to 12:30. Across the school, the stated aims emphasise language, confidence and positive relationships. The school wants children to communicate clearly and develop resilience through challenge and support.
Support for additional needs follows three levels across the school: adapted classroom teaching, extra help in small groups and, for a small proportion of children, individual support. An Individual Needs Analysis and provision map identify the help and adjustments for each child. These give families a concrete basis for discussing what their child needs.
Parents can raise concerns with the class teacher or SEND coordinator. Parents of children on the SEND register are invited to review support and progress with the SEND coordinator at least three times a year. Referrals to outside agencies require parental permission; Speech & Language Therapy and the Educational Psychology Service are among the services the school can involve.
Physical access includes ramps, wider doors at the main access points and adapted toilets. Families also have a Parent Support Advisor who helps with concerns about children and difficulties at home that affect school life. With the family's agreement, this role can connect parents to specialist support services.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer priority under the school's stated allocation criteria. Families must submit a separate application through Barnsley Local Authority's online admissions route. Apply during the Autumn Term for the following September intake; nursery staff pass on information from the authority.
For children with SEND, arrangements for moving between classes include staff meetings to share needs analyses, provision maps and specialist advice. These children have opportunities to spend time with their next teacher and class, with additional time possible where appropriate. Familiarisation and admission remain separate matters.
Barnsley Local Authority manages nursery admissions as well as school admissions. Nursery applications can be registered from age two, and forms can be obtained through the school office. Nursery places are allocated by age, subject to availability.
Visits can be arranged in person or by calling the office on 01226 743041. Families interested in the flexible 30 hour places can contact the school for information about that option. The nursery's address is Roebuck Hill, Barnsley, S74 0JW.
