Nursery at Wombwell Park Street Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Morning or afternoon: a 15-hour week gives Park Street’s nursery its basic shape. Team CM is the nursery group within Wombwell Park Street Primary School, in Wombwell, Barnsley. For families choosing between the two session patterns, that distinction matters more than the wider school’s size or results.
This is the school’s own nursery unit. Its early-years learning sits within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with children’s progress checked against the framework’s assessment criteria. The focus is on building foundations for later learning.
Exploring seasonal changes, experimenting with colours and returning to favourite stories were features of early years at the December 2023 inspection. Children built secure foundations, while adults helped them learn to work together. These findings concern early years across the school, rather than a separate nursery judgement.
Reading has a social dimension here. In spring 2026, Reading Together invited nursery parents to share books in the school hall. That gives families a concrete way to join their child’s learning, rather than leaving reading entirely to the classroom. The same term included a nursery Easter Bonnet Parade and an Easter Singalong and Stay and Play, bringing creative activity and family participation into the programme.
The physical setting also matters for access. The school building has a single level, broad corridors and a ramp to the field. These are school facilities, rather than features of a separate nursery building.
Starting nursery has included contact before the first session: home visits for the January intake were scheduled in December 2024. This offered an opportunity for contact between home and nursery before children began attending.
For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), support starts with the class teacher and can involve the SEND coordinator. A School Support Plan is developed with the child, parents, teacher and coordinator when additional provision is needed. Reviews take place at least termly, keeping families involved in the next steps rather than simply receiving an update after decisions have been made.
Classroom adaptations include visual timetables, changes to resources and extra processing time. Where necessary, specialist input can come from Speech and Language Therapy or the Barnsley Education Specialist Support Team (BESST). The practical implication is that support can address communication, access and learning needs together.
Nursery attendance gives neither a guaranteed Reception place nor admissions priority. Families must make a separate Reception application through Barnsley Council’s online admissions system or the common application form. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is 15 January 2027. Treat this as a separate decision and application, even if your child already attends Team CM.
Transition support is a different matter. For children with additional needs, personalised planning can include extra visits, contact between existing and receiving staff, and opportunities for parents to meet the new team. Those arrangements help prepare a child for change; they do not alter the admissions position.
The nursery offers 15 hours per week through morning or afternoon sessions. Barnsley Council’s admissions team handles nursery applications. General enquiries can go to the school office on 01226 752029, and the office can arrange a school visit.
Additional hours. Charges apply to nursery hours beyond funded provision, or where an eligibility code is not supplied. Ask the school for current charges before agreeing additional hours, so the funding conditions and the family’s commitment are clear.
