Learning to share, concentrate and do things independently gives Kingsmoor’s youngest children a clear starting point. The nursery takes children aged two to four within Kingsmoor Lower School in Flitwick. The January 2025 inspection recorded a mix of morning and afternoon sessions.
Ladybird Room and Duckling Room each have a room lead. That gives parents a named team structure to understand alongside the wider early years provision. At the Ofsted inspection on 14 and 15 January 2025, early years provision was graded Good; this judgement covers the school’s early years, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Independence sits alongside learning with adults. In January 2025, children across early years participated readily in adult-supported activities, developed their ability to keep concentrating and practised sharing turns. These are practical foundations for joining group activities and becoming more confident doing things for themselves.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) includes learning through stories and creative work here. Shared reading uses picture books as well as books with large print, while practical story activities introduce children to putting events in order, anticipating what might happen and finding information. This gives parents a concrete picture of early literacy: understanding stories and how books communicate meaning.
Expressive Arts and Design is the EYFS strand used for art and design technology. The wider school also has a Woodland Area, described as a space for exploring the natural world.
Curriculum depth. In January 2025, early years learning needed further development so children gained deeper knowledge before progressing. Work on this had begun. Families should weigh that specific improvement priority alongside the positive findings about participation and independence.
Knowing the youngest children matters here. In January 2025, two-year-olds benefited from adults’ understanding of them. For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), support began with helping them become comfortable in early years, making settling part of the provision rather than treating it solely as a learning issue.
Needs were recognised promptly, specialist guidance informed changes to provision, and staff revisited those changes to check their impact. That creates a process of adjustment as a child’s needs become clearer. Parents can contact the school’s SEND coordinator through senco@kingsmoorschool.co.uk.
For emotional wellbeing concerns, the school has a pastoral lead contact at pastoral@kingsmoorschool.co.uk. Its family resources also include material from an Emotion Coaching Workshop delivered by the Flitwick Mental Health Support Team, giving parents another route into discussions about feelings and support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal school admissions process, coordinated by Central Bedfordshire’s School Admissions Team.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle has passed. Keep the nursery decision and the Reception application separate: choosing sessions here does not remove the need to apply again for school entry.
In January 2025, children attended morning and afternoon sessions. Confirm current session arrangements with the school office. For nursery enquiries, contact the school office at schooloffice@kingsmoorschool.co.uk or telephone 01525 712448. Kingsmoor’s address is Kingsmoor Close, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, MK45 1EY.
School tours can be booked through the office, providing a direct opportunity to look around and meet the headteacher. For calendar planning, use Kingsmoor’s own term dates: its training days can differ from those on Central Bedfordshire’s academic calendar.
