Nursery at Westfield Primary School

A pre-school within a primary school is the defining feature here: Westfield Primary Pre-School sits alongside Westfield Primary School on Chester Road, Bedford. Its dedicated page brings together an Expression of Interest Form and links to its curriculum intentions and Early Learning Goals. For families, that gives the provision its own starting point rather than treating a nursery enquiry as a school application.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 25 and 26 May 2022. That is a dated judgement about the school's early years provision, not a separate inspection outcome for this pre-school.
Early Learning Goals and Intent of the curriculum - Pre-School are the two curriculum links attached directly to the pre-school page. They place learning alongside the practical expression-of-interest route, giving parents distinct documents about educational intentions to read before making their choice.
These are pre-school-specific links. Keep them separate from the school's curriculum information for older children when considering the provision: a primary school's subject programmes should not be treated as a description of a nursery session.
Safeguarding concerns can be raised with the school's designated safeguarding team, including by email at safeguarding@westfieldschool.net. Westfield also participates in Operation Encompass, a partnership through which police pass information about domestic abuse incidents to the school before the following school day. This gives staff information that can help them respond to a child's circumstances.
Relish provides the school's meals. Its Parent Portal includes menus, recipes and allergen details, together with a way to message the catering manager. For families using the school meal service, those are useful tools for understanding the food offer and discussing dietary concerns. This describes the school catering service rather than establishing a nursery lunch arrangement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Under the published September 2022 to 2024 arrangements, Bedford Borough Council allocated Reception places against ranked criteria. Check the current arrangements for your child's application cycle.
Admissions period. The arrangements reproduced on the admissions page cover September 2022 to 2024. Nursery attendance is not one of that period's listed priority criteria. Families should treat that as a historical position, rather than a promise about a later application cycle.
Preparation for starting Reception is a separate matter. Westfield offers summer-term tours, visits and stay-and-play sessions so children can get to know staff and the setting. A parent meeting covers readiness and September starting arrangements; a home visit appointment is also offered near the summer term's end. These support familiarity, not admissions priority.
The pre-school's Expression of Interest Form is the direct enquiry starting point. General enquiries can also go to office@westfieldschool.net or 01234 267353. Paper copies of website information can be requested from the school office free of charge, giving families an alternative to reading documents online.
Parking. Space outside the school is limited, and parents ordinarily cannot drive onto the premises. Exceptional permission may be granted by the headteacher. Allow for the final part of the journey on foot when planning collection and drop-off.
