Nursery at Newdigate Primary and Nursery School

Stories from age two and outdoor den building give Newdigate’s nursery its character: language develops alongside practical play and learning to get along with other children. Acorn Nursery serves two and three year olds; Conker Nursery is for three and four year olds. Both belong to Newdigate Primary and Nursery School in Bedworth.
The nursery shares a single school site, with departments connected by a long corridor in a building on one level. This places the provision physically within the school. Ofsted judged early years provision Good following the inspection on 16 and 17 July 2024; this is an early years judgement within the school inspection.
Language starts early here. In July 2024, children from age two heard stories and learned songs and rhymes, helping them expand their language. These are concrete building blocks for children beginning to communicate their ideas: listening, remembering words and joining in with familiar sounds.
Outdoor play also involves thinking together. During den building, children collaborated and worked through ways to make their constructions better. They persisted with the task. The early years learning described in July 2024 brought curiosity and problem solving together, with staff creating activities that gave children reasons to explore.
Social learning runs alongside those activities. Children had opportunities to practise sharing and taking turns, while routines were established promptly to help them feel secure. For parents, the picture is of early learning through conversation, practical tasks and interaction with other children.
Additional needs can be recognised during nursery. Parents are told about concerns and contribute their views, so support begins with discussion about the individual child. The school uses a repeating cycle of assessing needs, planning support, putting it into practice and reviewing the response. Parents of children on the SEND register are invited to termly meetings with the class teacher.
Support may involve individual adult help, work in a small group or advice from specialist services. Speech and language therapists and the Specialist Teaching Service are among the services the school can involve when needed. These arrangements give families a route from an initial developmental concern to more specific support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority and meet the deadline for their entry year. Warwickshire residents use the council’s online application system. For September 2026 entry, the closing date was 15 January 2026.
For that entry cycle, nursery attendance itself did not confer priority under the Reception oversubscription criteria. Receiving Early Years Pupil Premium was a separate criterion, rather than an advantage attached to attending Newdigate’s nursery. Keep the nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions.
Nursery sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am or from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. These morning and afternoon windows give parents specific collection times to fit around other commitments.
Acorn takes children from age two, with free places for eligible families and private places also available. Conker entry begins in the term after a child’s third birthday. To arrange a school visit, call the office on 02476 361662 for an appointment.
Prompt collection matters. Tell the school if somebody else will collect your child, and contact it as soon as possible if you will be late, so staff can make appropriate arrangements.
