Morning sessions or full days: Stepping Stones Nursery Class gives families a choice within Berkhamsted Pre-Prep. This is the nursery class attached to the school, with its own session arrangements. The Pre-Prep caters for boys and girls aged 3–7; that age range covers the wider Pre-Prep rather than the nursery class alone.
For parents, the distinction between a nursery session and the care surrounding it matters. Stepping Stones has morning and full-day options, while Breakfast Club and After School Club extend the Pre-Prep day. Those additional hours carry separate charges, so the nursery booking and any extra care need to be considered together.
Berkhamsted describes its early-years approach as balancing early academic learning with children's emotional and social development. It treats play as a way to develop skills and character. The intended emphasis is therefore broader than preparation for formal lessons: learning and personal development sit alongside one another.
A morning session offers the shorter attendance option; a full day extends the time in nursery. Families can also choose five full days. These are distinct booking choices, allowing parents to weigh a shorter nursery day against a full-day pattern.
The Pre-Prep says its staff aim to make learning feel safe for each child. Its emphasis on emotional and social development gives care a place alongside early academic skills, rather than treating the two as separate concerns.
Speech and language support includes a therapist working with Early Years and Key Stage One. That is a specific support connection relevant to younger children.
Food also affects the day's arrangements. Lunch is charged separately from tuition. For children using After School Club, a snack is provided at the start of the session, and those staying for the later session receive a snack tea. Breakfast Club includes breakfast before 08:00.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Choosing Stepping Stones should therefore be a decision about nursery provision in its own right, with the next application treated separately.
Funding. Stepping Stones does not offer Early Years Government Funding. Families should plan for private nursery charges and contact the school for current charges.
Tuition is paid in three equal instalments across the year, one at the start of each term. Payment is due on the first day of term, with direct debit, debit card and bank transfer accepted. Lunch, wraparound care and some after-school activities are outside tuition charges.
Breakfast Club begins at 07:30, and the final After School Club session ends at 18:00. These hours help parents assess the care surrounding their chosen nursery session. Enquiries can be made through the Pre-Prep's Make an Enquiry or Register route.
