An early start with sounds and carefully planned number activities gives Langford Village’s nursery its clearest character. This is a nursery class within Langford Village Community Primary School in Bicester, rather than a separate childcare setting. The wider school serves children aged 3 to 11; that is the school’s age range, not a nursery-only range.
The most useful picture of the provision comes from its early learning: adults help children build knowledge in a planned sequence, with attention to how ideas connect. For parents, the emphasis is on what children begin to learn and how adults support that learning.
Sounds, numbers and patterns are concrete starting points here. In March 2023, nursery children were getting started promptly with learning sounds. This gives families a specific picture of early literacy: children begin with the sounds that support learning to read, rather than reading being treated only as a later school task.
Mathematics in the early years included activities deliberately designed around exploring numbers and patterns. That makes the learning more tangible than a broad promise of school readiness. Children have opportunities to explore mathematical ideas through activities, with adults shaping the learning behind them.
The March 2023 inspection also recognised adults’ expertise in supporting the youngest children. Learning was sequenced to help children connect ideas and retain knowledge. Together, these findings point to purposeful adult involvement: the activities matter, but so does the way staff help children understand them. These are dated findings, providing a picture of early learning at that time.
Getting along with other children is part of the early-years picture. In March 2023, children in the early years related well to one another. For a child beginning group learning, that matters alongside sounds and numbers: working and playing with peers is part of the experience families are choosing.
Support for additional needs also featured in the inspection’s account of early-years and infant learning. Needs were recognised early, and children with special educational needs and/or disabilities took part in activities alongside their peers with support matched to their needs. The practical implication is participation in shared learning, supported according to the child’s needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Langford Village. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat that application as a distinct step in your planning, even while your child attends the nursery.
Reception admission. Choosing the nursery and obtaining a Reception place are separate decisions. Familiarity with the school should not be treated as an offer of a place.
The school is on Peregrine Way, Bicester, OX26 6SX. The school office is the enquiry contact: telephone 01869 369021 or email office.2608@langford-village.oxon.sch.uk. This gives families a direct point of contact for a nursery enquiry.
Keep Reception planning separate from that initial enquiry. A nursery place is a decision about your child’s early-years experience; the later school-place application remains another task for the family.
