At a Glance

Story-sharing, making and exploring the local community give Bramford’s early years provision its character. The nursery belongs to Bramford Primary School on Chad Road in Coseley, within the Griffin Schools Trust. Morning and afternoon sessions provide two distinct parts of the nursery timetable, each with its own finish time.

The Nursery Day

Books are part of the Foundation Stage routine. Children share stories with a teacher or teaching assistant during the week, with texts selected to introduce vocabulary and suit their stage of learning. That makes listening and talking about books part of the experience, rather than treating reading only as a skill for later schooling.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) includes Understanding the World: learning about people, places and the surroundings children know. At Bramford, this involves stories, role play and small world play, alongside first-hand experiences of home, school and the local area. Early years trips include the park and local library. Children have time to question and discuss what they notice, connecting their play with places beyond the classroom.

Drawing and making have a place too. The early years art approach encourages children to experiment with materials and techniques, both independently and together. Bramford aims to connect self-expression with developing movement, language and decision-making skills. For parents, the emphasis is on children exploring ideas and making choices.

Care and Support

Support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) sits within the school’s team structure. The class teacher is the first contact for concerns about learning, with the SEND coordinator involved when further discussion or support is needed. Learning plans are reviewed with parents at least once each term, giving families a recurring opportunity to discuss the next steps.

Specialist support can involve Speech and Language Therapy and the Integrated Early Years Service. Referrals to outside professionals may require parental permission. This gives families a role in decisions about assessment and support, rather than simply receiving an update afterwards.

The school building occupies one level, with ramps and double doors supporting access. Changing facilities and a shower area are also part of the school’s provision. For children with medical conditions, care plans are drawn up with parents, medical specialists and the teachers involved, then reviewed termly or when new advice arrives.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer admissions priority. For the 2027/28 intake, families must make a separate application through their home local authority using its Common Application Form, by that authority’s deadline. Nursery children are assessed against the same oversubscription criteria as other applicants. Treat this as a separate decision and application.

For children with SEND moving between classes, staff pass information and targets to the next teacher in advance. A planning meeting usually takes place, and a transition book or passport can be made where it would help the child understand the change. This supports continuity of care; it is separate from securing admission.

Practical Information

Morning Nursery runs from 08:30 to 11:30; Afternoon Nursery runs from 12:15 to 15:15. The nursery timetable also includes a lunch period from 11:15 to 12:15 for children on the 30-hour arrangement. These are nursery-specific times, so use them when planning collection and other childcare.

General enquiries go to the school office on 01384 283689 or info@bramford-gst.org.

FAQs

Morning Nursery runs from 08:30 to 11:30, and Afternoon Nursery from 12:15 to 15:15.

No. For the 2027/28 intake, nursery attendance gives neither a guaranteed place nor admissions priority. A separate application goes through your home local authority.

Activities include sharing books, drawing, making, role play and small world play. Understanding the World also includes local experiences, with early years trips to the library and park.

Start with your child’s class teacher. The SEND coordinator can discuss continuing concerns, and learning plans are reviewed with parents at least once each term.
