Conversation and practical number work give Loxdale’s early years provision its clearest character. Adults help children develop their language through interaction, while objects and pictures make early mathematics tangible. These are useful foundations for children beginning to explain their ideas and understand numbers.
The nursery belongs to Loxdale Primary School on Dudley Street in Bilston. Its staffing includes a nursery teacher and nursery teaching assistants, within a school team that also includes an early years phase leader. That places nursery provision within the school’s teaching structure.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum covers more than early reading and counting. Loxdale’s curriculum areas include physical development, understanding the world, expressive arts, and personal, social and emotional development, alongside language, literacy and mathematics. For parents, this means learning encompasses children’s movement, relationships and ways of expressing themselves as well as their first academic steps.
In October 2024, Ofsted found that early years adults used skilful interaction to extend children’s communication and understanding. Number learning also had a practical basis: staff used physical resources alongside pictures to help children grasp early mathematical ideas. Children therefore had something concrete to work with as they developed their understanding of numbers.
Stay and Play sessions give families an opportunity to join their children in EYFS learning. This is a useful connection between home and school: parents can participate alongside their child, rather than relying solely on an account of what happened afterwards.
Early identification of children’s needs and supportive relationships helped children settle promptly in October 2024. The emphasis was on adults understanding children from the outset. For a family approaching nursery, that makes the relationship with staff an important part of the start.
School support extends beyond the classroom team. Teachers and teaching assistants are points of contact for questions, while the Pastoral Team supports families facing emotional difficulties, bereavement or changes at home. These are school services rather than a separate nursery care programme.
For SEND information, families can use the school’s SEN Information Report and its link to the Wolverhampton Local Offer. The latter brings together support services for children and their families. Loxdale also provides voluntary Early Help when family difficulties begin, giving parents a route to support before problems escalate.
Attending Loxdale’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Keep that application distinct from joining nursery.
Loxdale follows City of Wolverhampton Council admissions guidance. Its admissions page links families to the council’s school admissions information, making that the relevant route for checking the application process.
Nursery enquiries can go through the school office on 01902 558570 or by email to loxdaleprimaryschool@wolverhampton.gov.uk. The school’s address is Dudley Street, Bilston, WV14 0AU.
The school offers a pre-loved uniform request form and confidential help for families who have difficulty providing uniform. Requests are collected from the school office once ready. This gives families a practical way to access donated clothing through the school.
