Playing, exploring and learning to get along give Manor’s nursery its shape. Part of Manor Primary School on Ettingshall Road in Coseley, the provision sits within the school’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It combines a curriculum covering language, movement and relationships with early literacy, maths and creative learning.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Outstanding at the inspection on 6 and 7 December 2022. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
The EYFS gives learning several connected strands. Communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development sit alongside literacy, mathematics, expressive arts and understanding the world. For parents, this means that learning to communicate and manage relationships belongs alongside learning about words and numbers. Play is part of the curriculum.
Manor says it plans learning around children’s abilities and interests. Playing and exploring, active learning, and creative thinking are its named learning characteristics. Each child has an EYFS learning journey, with observations of ordinary activities contributing to assessment. Staff assess children mainly by observing everyday activities and events.
Nursery themes include Art Attack, Down on the Farm and People who help us. Other themes, including All about Me and My Family and Amazing Authors & Super Stories, connect familiar experiences with books and imagination. These give parents concrete starting points for conversations about nursery learning.
In December 2022, children in early years were learning predictable routines, cooperating in play and practising taking turns. Reading ambition also began in Nursery. Together, these findings show attention to both the social habits of a group session and the beginnings of learning to read.
Families have a direct route for discussing concerns: the school operates an open-door approach and parents can email staff. This gives a parent a way to raise an issue rather than waiting for a formal meeting.
Additional learning support can involve the school’s SEND team. The SEND coordinator can be reached through SENDManor@manorprimary.com or on 01902 556460, providing a specific contact for questions about special educational needs and disabilities.
School catering is provided by Edwards and Ward, using fresh ingredients and local suppliers. The school menu follows a three-week cycle. This describes the wider school’s catering arrangements, rather than establishing a meal arrangement for either nursery session.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the local authority where they live, following the normal application timetable. Treat that application as a separate step even if your child already attends Manor’s nursery.
The nursery choice and the Reception application therefore need separate planning. Familiarity with the school does not remove the need to apply again.
Morning Nursery runs from 8:30am to 11:30am; Afternoon Nursery runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. These are distinct session times, so collection and any arrangements around the session need to fit the nursery timetable.
