A morning session gives Villiers nursery its practical shape: children start at 8:50am and finish at 11:50am. For families organising care around the session, that lunchtime collection matters. This is the school's own provision for three-year-olds, based at Villiers Primary School on Prouds Lane in Bilston.
The school describes inclusion and support alongside children's peers as central to its curriculum. Nursery forms the starting point of its curriculum planning, linking early learning with the education that follows.
Learning has a planned sequence. Staff use long-term and medium-term plans that connect the curriculum from nursery onwards, giving teachers a structure for building on earlier learning rather than treating each topic in isolation. The school aims to develop curiosity and vocabulary through direct experiences, with children using what they have learned.
In July 2022, Ofsted found that the early years curriculum prepared children well for later learning. That finding concerns the early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. For parents, the useful distinction is between a curriculum designed to build foundations and an admissions promise about the next stage.
Support for additional needs follows a cycle of assessment, planning, action and review. An individual education plan records a child's needs, intended outcomes and provision, with parents' views contributing to the process. Support can involve an adult in the classroom, a small group, individual help or outside agencies. This gives families a way to discuss both what help is planned and whether it is working.
Parents can raise concerns with their child's class teacher or contact the SENCo at sen@villiersprimaryschool.co.uk. The SEND and Inclusion Lead oversees provision for children with additional needs. Families can also arrange an appointment to discuss their child's needs in detail.
Communication includes a parents' evening each term. For children with a SEN Plan or EHC Plan, formal reviews happen at least once per term, with supporting professionals invited. Medication needed during the day must carry a printed label identifying the child, dose and frequency; parents complete a healthcare form, and a trained staff member administers it. Non-prescribed medicines are not administered.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the local authority where they live, following the normal application timetable. Treat choosing nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions, even when the preferred school is the same.
The nursery session runs from 8:50am to 11:50am. Plan collection around that finish time.
For nursery enquiries, contact the school office on 01902 558993 or email villiersprimary@wolverhampton.gov.uk. The office opens Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, providing a contact point for routine arrangements. If your child is ill, telephone the office on the first day they miss a session. Nursery children arriving late are escorted to their classroom by a member of staff.
