Schools in Birkenhead

An industrial port town of around 110,000 people, Birkenhead sits on the west bank of the River Mersey in Merseyside. Birkenhead Priory and the Mersey Ferry date from the twelfth century, and by the nineteenth century the town had grown into one of Britain's busiest seaports, with Cammell Laird's shipbuilding yards shaping its working character for generations. The docks declined through the late twentieth century. Hamilton Square's Georgian terraces and Birkenhead Park, one of England's first publicly funded open spaces, remain the town's civic anchors.

Rock Ferry is among the most sought-after pockets for primary catchments, while Bidston has long been a school-competitive corner of Birkenhead; Woodchurch and Conway Park draw families across the wider peninsula. Merseyrail services connect Birkenhead Central to Liverpool Central in around ten minutes.
