Nursery at Hall Green Infant School

Two groups shaped the nursery at Hall Green Infant School in February 2023: a morning group and an afternoon group, giving children a session within an infant-school setting. In February 2023, provision catered for children aged three to four, with capacity expressed as 26 full-time equivalent places. That is a capacity measure, rather than a headcount for each group.
The nursery belongs to the school on Petersfield Road in Hall Green, Birmingham. The February 2023 arrangement provided an early introduction to school life through separate morning and afternoon groups.
Stories and rhymes give concrete shape to the nursery's learning activities. Archived nursery material includes Owl Babies and Five Minutes Peace, alongside nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty and Incy Wincy Spider. These give families familiar starting points for talking about books and joining in with language activities at home. The archive also includes activities for families under Ready Teddy Go! and Perfect Pets!, connecting nursery material with things parents can share with their children.
The foundation-stage learning areas include language and communication, physical development and social and emotional development, alongside mathematics, literacy, creative expression and understanding the world. For parents, that means the learning framework extends beyond early reading and number work to movement, relationships and expressing ideas.
Outdoor learning spaces for the foundation stage were part of the school environment in February 2023. They gave the early-years provision a physical setting.
At the February 2023 inspection, Ofsted found that early-years staff taught early learning skills effectively and used children's preschool experiences as a starting point. This matters for children bringing different experiences into nursery: learning begins with what they already know.
Home visits and opportunities for parents to play alongside their children supported family involvement in February 2023. These contacts give parents a way to participate in early learning, rather than leaving that relationship solely to exchanges at collection. Children were developing a sense that both they and their learning mattered.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Birmingham City Council's online admissions process. The school's listed Reception criteria give precedence to looked-after children, followed by categories based on siblings and catchment; nursery attendance is not a priority criterion in that list.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle has passed. Choosing the nursery and applying for Reception remain separate decisions, so parents should treat the next school application as a distinct task.
The September 2020 timetable used weekday arrival and collection windows. Morning nursery arrival ran from 8.45 to 9.00am, with collection between 11.30 and 11.45am. Afternoon arrival was between 12.45 and 1.00pm, followed by collection from 3.30 to 3.45pm. These are historical windows, rather than current booking promises.
