Nursery at Hallfield School

Library trips to the Creative Cottage, music and time among gardens and animals give Hallfield First a day that reaches beyond its nursery rooms. This is Hallfield School’s nursery for children aged three months to three years, in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Its place within the school brings access to the campus grounds while keeping feeding, sleep and play central to the youngest children’s routines.
The practical choice is substantial: families book at least three days each week, with term-time and 48-week patterns. This suits parents seeking regular care across several days rather than an occasional session.
Breakfast, freely chosen play, songs, stories and lunch shape the daily routine, with naps for children who need them. Staff aim to retain familiar routines from home. For a baby or toddler, that gives the move into nursery a recognisable rhythm rather than requiring every care habit to change at once.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum develops communication, physical skills and relationships through play. Hallfield’s bespoke approach includes specialist dance and music from age two. Weekly music, dance and visits to the Creative Cottage library are included in Hallfield First’s fees, bringing movement, listening and books into the nursery week.
Access to the school’s 22 acres includes fields, gardens and Forest School, alongside chickens and a guinea pig. Outdoors is therefore part of the learning environment, with living things to investigate as well as room for movement.
Familiar home routines help shape settling. The daily routine includes a nap for children who need one, so rest forms part of the nursery day.
Hallfield First includes food, Pampers nappies and Pampers sensitive wipes in its fees. That makes everyday consumables part of the care package. Joining paperwork includes health, allergy and dietary information, helping families pass on their child’s care requirements before starting.
The nursery staffing structure includes room leaders, nursery nurses and apprentices, with Level 3 qualifications represented.
The May 2023 ISI inspection recorded that registered childcare met statutory requirements, with no action required, and recommended more opportunities for colleagues to exchange practice across the early-years department. This is a useful development point for families to keep in view.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Hallfield First entry is conditional on families committing to Hallfield from Reception, and remains subject to availability. That commitment should not be treated as an automatic place offer. Confirm with the school which Reception application steps apply to children already attending Hallfield First.
Preparation for the next stage is a different question. Foundation, for children aged three to four, builds familiarity with specialist teachers, school routines, woodland activities and the Creative Cottage library. Those familiar people and places can help children approach the next classroom with confidence; they do not establish an admissions entitlement.
Care runs from 08:00 to either 16:30 or 18:00, with bookings for three, four or five days weekly under term-time or 48-week arrangements. Extra days also have a separate charging category. Breakfast club, for children aged zero to four, is an optional charged extra from 07:30 to 08:00 during term time. Refer to the school for current charges.
Contact admissions@hallfieldschool.co.uk or 0121 454 1496 to enquire or book a personal tour. Before joining, families complete the relevant health and consent paperwork, including a nominated-persons form for Hallfield First. This makes collection arrangements part of the preparation for starting.
