Nursery at Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants

Learning to be with other children comes first here. The nursery at Oasis Academy Blakenhale Infants in Garrett's Green, Birmingham, provides an introduction to school life for children aged three to four, with morning, afternoon and full-time attendance options. It belongs to the infant academy, rather than operating as a separate nursery.
September is the entry point, in the term after a child's third birthday. For families, the choice of session is a practical part of choosing this provision: a shorter nursery day and a full-time place follow different timetables.
Social learning gives the nursery its focus. In October 2022, Ofsted found that nursery children were learning to interact with others and understand their surroundings, while becoming familiar with school learning routines. That makes relationships and everyday understanding part of the learning itself.
The Early Years Foundation Curriculum is included in the academy's curriculum provision. Here, the nursery-specific picture is of children beginning to learn alongside others and adjusting gradually to organised learning. Parents should weigh that introduction to school routines alongside the session pattern that suits their child.
Settling is adapted to the child. Staff work with parents through the move from home to nursery, and induction arrangements differ according to individual needs. A child who finds separation difficult therefore has an induction shaped around them, rather than a single fixed starting pattern.
Teaching assistants form part of the nursery team. Across the academy, the SEND coordinator oversees additional provision, with an inclusion team also available to families. Parents with concerns start by speaking to their child's teacher; the office can arrange an appointment about SEND.
Before children join, home visits and contact with their previous setting help staff identify individual needs. Support can involve the Communication and Autism Team or Educational Psychology, where appropriate. Parents are consulted before specialist referrals, except where a child may be at risk of harm. The school's wheelchair-accessible reception area, family room and disabled toilet also matter for families who need accessible facilities.
A nursery place does not guarantee a Reception place, and nursery attendance gives no Reception admissions priority under the 2027/2028 arrangements. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions route. For Birmingham residents, that means Birmingham City Council's Common Application Form; families living elsewhere use their home local authority's form.
For September 2027 entry, the application deadline is 15 January 2027. Keep that application separate from nursery booking: becoming familiar with the academy does not change how a Reception place is allocated.
Monday to Friday sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am or from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Full-time attendance runs from 8.45am to 3.15pm. These are the times to match against work and collection arrangements.
Part-time provision is 15 hours per week. Working parents can obtain a 30-hour place subject to supplying a valid HMRC 30-hour code. Nursery applications and enquiries about part-time availability go directly to the academy. Contact the office on 0121 783 3960 or email info@oasisblakenhaleinfants.org.
