Friendship has a practical place in nursery life at Pheasey Park Farm: learning to take turns, recognising feelings and getting used to shared routines. This is the nursery within Pheasey Park Farm Primary School and Early Years Centre in Great Barr. Its morning and afternoon sessions give the day a clear shape.
The school nursery and the Early Years Centre have separate enquiry routes. That distinction matters when choosing provision: nursery enquiries go to the School Office, while the centre takes enquiries directly.
The curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here, that means learning includes conversation, relationships and independence alongside early mathematical ideas. In June 2024, Ofsted found that routines introduced in Nursery helped children develop independence and confidence, with early years teaching giving particular attention to language and communication.
Stories, rhymes and singing give children opportunities to listen and practise words. Number work also involves language: children explore patterns while using terms such as halving and doubling. These activities connect speaking with understanding, rather than treating vocabulary as a separate exercise.
Foundation Stage activities include making collage portraits and acting out familiar situations in the home corner. Children explore the grounds and learn about the adults who help them at school. Learning about families and the people who help in the wider community gives them subjects to discuss that connect with their own lives.
Friendship work makes social learning concrete. Children consider compliments, discuss what makes a good friend and practise sharing. Nursery routines and rules sit alongside activities about feeling happy or sad, giving children ways to talk about emotions as they learn to manage being part of a group.
Families with concerns about their child's learning can contact the SEND team. The school aims to recognise needs early and match support to each child's starting point. Walsall's SEND Local Offer also provides families with information and help across the borough.
There is a caution here. The June 2024 inspection identified a school-wide weakness in some SEND learning plans: targets lacked enough precision, limiting progress for some pupils. This was not identified specifically as a nursery finding. For families whose child needs additional support, clear, individual learning steps are an important point to discuss.
Safeguarding communication includes discussing concerns with parents and seeking consent for referrals, except where doing so could place a child at risk of significant harm or further significant harm, place a vulnerable adult at risk of harm, or interfere with enquiries by police or children's social care. That qualification matters: protecting a child can require contact with other agencies before parents are informed.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Pheasey Park Farm. Families must make a separate application through Walsall Council's website. Treat that application as a distinct step from choosing nursery sessions; attending here does not remove the need to apply again.
Morning nursery runs from 8:45am to 11:45am; the afternoon session runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. These are separate three-hour blocks, so the relevant start and collection times matter when arranging the family day.
