A morning of play and adult-led learning gives Yorkswood’s school nursery its shape. Children join in the September following their third birthday, with the nursery forming part of Yorkswood Primary School on Kingshurst Way, Kingshurst. This is the school’s nursery provision; Brambles provides the additional hours that can extend the arrangement for eligible families.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guides the learning. In practice, children take part in activities led by adults and also choose their own play, giving them opportunities both to practise something taught and to pursue an interest. Teaching takes account of children’s experience, age and individual interests rather than using one approach for everyone.
Indoor classrooms and outdoor learning space both contribute to the day. Resources remain accessible for children to use in their play, so an activity can continue beyond the adult’s initial teaching. The school aims for children to develop independence, solve problems and build relationships through these experiences. Learning to make a choice and work alongside another child is part of the purpose.
All About Me gives a concrete example of nursery learning. In autumn 2025, children explored their characteristics and considered how their abilities had changed since they were babies. That connects learning with something familiar: themselves. It also gives families a useful starting point for conversations about growing up and what their child can now do.
A healthy snack is included in the morning session. Families supply any nappies, cream, wipes or sunscreen their child needs, keeping these everyday care items part of the preparation for nursery.
Progress is checked and updates are sent to parents. Across Yorkswood, Class Dojo carries daily messages for the school community, classroom updates from teachers and a messaging function for conversations with families. Teachers are also available at classroom doors each day. These routes give parents ways to discuss learning and raise a concern directly. For SEND enquiries, the school’s contact is senco@yorkswoodprimary.co.uk.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process, with school applications managed by Solihull Council. Treat that application as a separate task when planning the next stage, even if your child already attends Yorkswood’s nursery.
The school nursery provides 15 funded hours through morning sessions from 8.45am to 11.45am, Monday to Friday. That makes the core arrangement five mornings, rather than a full nursery day.
Additional hours at Brambles can complete the 30-hour entitlement for children who qualify, subject to space. Children using that arrangement may bring lunch from home or have a charged hot meal. Contact the school for current charges. Nursery enquiries can be made on 0121 468 4351 or by emailing enquiries@yorkswoodprimary.co.uk.
