Five mornings or three, four or five full days: The Nest gives families several ways to shape a nursery week at Bishop's Stortford College. Nursery is part of the Pre-Prep, which starts at age three. The practical distinction is between a morning pattern and full days, so the choice needs to fit both your child's stamina and your family's timetable.
Pre-Prep shares a campus with the College's other departments. The wider site includes 150 acres of parkland, placing the nursery within a substantial school setting rather than a separate childcare site.
Learning through play is the approach at The Nest. For a young child, that makes play the starting point for learning rather than simply a break between tasks. The morning and full-day patterns give families different amounts of time in that nursery setting.
Lunches are included in College fees, alongside stationery and textbooks. That helps families distinguish the core charge from additional payments when considering a full-day pattern. Confirm current charges with the College before accepting a place.
Bursaries are excluded throughout Pre-Prep. Families considering The Nest should therefore plan around its funded-hours arrangements and nursery charges rather than expecting means-tested bursary assistance at this stage.
Attending The Nest does not guarantee a Reception place. Reception applicants use the College's admissions portal. Existing Nest families should confirm Reception progression and any fresh application requirements with Pre-Prep admissions, including the deadline for their intended entry year.
For the past 2026 entry cycle, the Reception application deadline was 26 September 2025, with assessment days running from 10 to 21 November 2025. Those dates belong to that intake. They should not be used to plan a later application.
Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two decisions. A nursery booking should suit the child now; it should not be treated as securing the next school place.
For 2026–2027, The Nest's booking patterns are five mornings or three, four or five full days. Choose the attendance pattern before comparing the charges, since morning attendance and full-day attendance represent different commitments.
Funded hours. A limited number of Funded Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) places allow three and four year olds to access up to 15 hours each week free of charge. These funded hours run only in the afternoons, from 12.00pm until 15.00pm. A family choosing mornings should therefore keep that timing restriction in mind.
The College does not offer the extended 30 hours of free childcare, but FEEE can be split with another provider. This gives families a possible shared arrangement, while keeping the College's afternoon restriction central to their planning.
Enquiries can be made through the admissions portal. The Pre-Prep admissions team can also be contacted on 01279 838626 or at ppadmissions@bishopsstortfordcollege.org. Individual visits can be booked and include a pupil-led tour, a meeting with senior management and a conversation with admissions staff. Use that conversation to discuss the attendance pattern you are considering.
