Five sessions a week give Manor Fields nursery a regular rhythm: families choose mornings or, subject to demand, afternoons, with an extended pattern also offered. This is the school's Butterflies class, at Penningtons in Bishop's Stortford, with a maximum of 30 nursery places.
The September 2026 intake was for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at its inspection on 15 and 16 March 2022. That judgement covers early years within the school.
Assessment helps staff choose the next learning challenge. In March 2022, early years staff worked together to understand children's development and select activities that stretched them. For parents, the useful point is that activities were matched to what children could do.
Learning about feelings also has a place in the school's daily routines. Classes have mindful moments, and children learn shared vocabulary for emotions, including an emotion word each week. These give children language for explaining how they feel. The school adapts its behaviour teaching to children's age, development and SEND needs, so expectations come with adjustments rather than one fixed method for everyone.
Relationships were an early years strength in March 2022: warm connections between adults and children developed promptly. A phased start was used for Nursery in September 2025, giving that intake a gradual introduction to school routines.
For children needing additional support, the school's provision includes access to a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. Parents can discuss their child's needs and progress with the class teacher or Inclusion Coordinator. Support levels are reviewed over both shorter and longer periods, giving families a continuing conversation about adjustments as needs change.
Snacks come through the Government Fruit and Vegetable Scheme and are free. Families supply care items such as wipes, nappies and sun cream. These are practical responsibilities to build into preparations for the nursery week.
Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception process, managed and coordinated by their child's local authority, and meet its application deadline. Nursery attendance should therefore be treated as a choice about the child's nursery experience, with the Reception application handled as a separate task.
For the September 2026 intake, morning sessions run from 8.30am to 11.30am. The afternoon option is 12.30pm to 3.30pm, subject to demand. Children attend at least five mornings or five afternoons each week; those sessions are covered by the universal 15-hour entitlement.
The 30-hour pattern runs from 8.30am to 3.15pm Monday to Thursday, followed by 8.30am to 11.30am on Friday. A paid Friday extension lasts until 3.15pm. This shorter Friday matters when arranging work and collection. Extended provision can use working-parent childcare funding where eligible, or private payment. Contact the school for current charges. Occasional trips and events are optional and may carry separate costs.
