Little Nursery gives two-year-olds a place within Christ Church’s early years provision, while morning, afternoon and full-time nursery sessions offer different lengths of day. This is nursery life within a Church of England primary school in Bootle. Its Christian character reaches the youngest children through activities such as The First Nativity, rather than remaining simply a description of the school’s identity.
Stories and familiar routines give the early years day its shape. At the June 2023 inspection, children as young as two enjoyed adults reading aloud, and early years children settled promptly into established routines. For a young child, that combines time listening to language with a predictable pattern to follow.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) includes these beginnings in listening and learning. Seasonal activities add another dimension: nursery children took part in The First Nativity alongside Reception children, giving families a shared performance to attend. Singing and acting brought the Christmas story into an activity children could participate in.
Movement has its place too. A Santa Dash involved nursery and Reception children running around the playground with festive music and hats. This is a concrete example of outdoor activity tied to a school celebration, with the playground providing space for children to be active together.
Support connects nursery families with the wider school team. The Inclusion Hub brings pastoral and SEND staff together, combining help with learning and family circumstances. A pastoral manager and assistant work with parents and classroom staff to address obstacles to participation. They can also connect families with Early Help, giving parents a route into support beyond the classroom.
For special educational needs and disabilities, an early years and Key Stage 1 SEND contact is accessible through the office. The school’s Graduated Approach was developed with Sefton SENIS. This gives families a named framework for discussing support, alongside Sefton’s Local Offer.
Operation Encompass adds a specific safeguarding link. Police notify the school before the following school day when a child has experienced domestic abuse, and trained safeguarding team members use that information confidentially to support the child. Families can reach the pastoral team through the office.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the normal deadline. Treat nursery attendance and the later school application as two distinct decisions.
Shared activities, including The First Nativity, connect nursery children with Reception children. That is an experience of participating together, not an admissions entitlement.
Morning nursery runs from 8:45 to 11:45; the afternoon session runs from 12:15 to 3:15. Full-time children attend from 9:00 to 3:00. The different starting and finishing times matter when coordinating collection with other commitments.
The school office handles enquiries on 0151 922 2136 or admin@christchurch.sefton.school. Office hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm. The contact address is Cornwall Road, previously Brookhill Road, Bootle, L20 3JL.
School uniform combines a bottle green sweatshirt bearing the logo with a yellow polo shirt and grey trousers or skirt. Footwear must be entirely black. Clothing should be labelled with the child’s name and class number, helping items find their way back to the right child.
