Nursery at Haberdashers' Knights Primary

Outdoor space and imaginative play give Knights Nursery its character. There are 25 nursery places for children aged three and four, within Haberdashers' Knights Primary on Ballamore Road in Bromley. This is the school's own nursery class, giving young children a school setting from the outset.
The nursery has indoor learning space and extensive outdoor areas. Part-time and full-time places offer families different attendance options. At the inspection on 5 and 6 December 2023, Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Play and exploration shape the early years approach. The school aims to develop children who persist with tasks, think for themselves and communicate confidently. In parent terms, its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) approach centres on learning through activity and relationships with adults and other children.
Imaginative play makes that approach concrete. In December 2023, early years children made shopping lists before buying things from a classroom grocery shop. Writing had a purpose within their game. However, adults sometimes missed opportunities to extend children's language, conversation and understanding. Improving those interactions was an explicit early years action, so the Good judgement comes with a specific qualification.
Forest School gives all classes opportunities for regular outdoor sessions, using exploration, practical activity and supported risks. It adds learning in a natural setting to the nursery's outdoor play space. The Haberdashers' Advantage Character Curriculum also starts in Early Years, with opportunities to practise personal values through lessons and wider experiences. These approaches put social development alongside children's learning.
A home visit takes place before the agreed start date, after the application paperwork has been returned. It gives families contact with the team before nursery begins. Staffing includes a nursery teacher and nursery nurses within the Early Years team.
For concerns about additional needs, parents should approach their child's class teacher first. The school's inclusion process can bring in the SENDCo and, where needed, specialist services. Its team works with parents and keeps them informed through the stages of support. That gives families a clear starting point for discussing their child's needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through their home local authority's online application process, naming Knights Primary as a preference, by the deadline for their child's entry year. Children are then considered against the admissions criteria. Choosing the nursery therefore remains a decision about these early years, with a separate application to plan for afterwards.
The nursery offers 15 funded hours each week for three- and four-year-olds. There is also 30-hour funded provision for children of working parents, plus paid top-up hours for families who do not qualify for funded 30 hours. Ask the school for current charges.
Nursery clothing comprises navy jogging bottoms and a navy sweatshirt, a white short-sleeved polo shirt and the school's crested book bag. Visits can be booked through the office on 020 8461 9249 or at knightsprimary@habstrustsouth.org.uk, giving families an opportunity to meet the team and see the nursery spaces.
