Schools in Bury

The open-air market hall and Victorian civic buildings at the heart of Bury town centre announce a Lancashire mill town that entered Greater Manchester's metropolitan county in 1974 but retains its own identity along the River Irwell. The town traces its industrial chapter to the cotton-spinning mills of the early nineteenth century; Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister and founder of the Metropolitan Police, was born here, commemorated by a monument on Holcombe Hill overlooking the borough. Edenfield and Ramsbottom reach further north. Around 81,000 people live in the town, with the wider borough home to just under 194,000.

Metrolink trams run from Bury station into central Manchester in around 35 minutes on the Bury line. Elton and Unsworth are among the most school-competitive pockets of the borough for primary catchments, drawing families who factor school proximity into their choice of neighbourhood.
