Schools in Salford

Red-brick Victorian terraces and regenerated dock warehouses frame the western bank of the River Irwell, where Salford meets Manchester city centre across one of the narrowest urban boundaries in northern England. The city has a population of around 129,000. Granted a market charter around 1230, Salford was awarded city status in 1926, and its wider metropolitan borough takes in Eccles, Pendlebury, Swinton and Walkden.

Salford Central and Salford Crescent stations sit on Northern services into Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly, while the Metrolink tram network serves the MediaCityUK waterfront along Salford Quays. Higher Broughton is among the most sought-after pockets for school catchments, with Ordsall and Broughton extending the school-competitive residential belt northward. Little Hulton forms the more affordable northwestern edge of the borough.
