Nursery at Hartsbourne Primary School

A separate building and a secure outdoor area give Hartsbourne’s nursery its own space within the primary school site. The building was installed in 2024 at the foot of the zigzag path, replacing a former parents’ waiting area. This is provision for three and four-year-olds, with a physical base designed for the younger children.
Hartsbourne links its nursery ambitions to confidence, aspiration and happy memories. Those are the school’s aims for children’s early experience, rather than a promise about their next school place.
The nursery’s indoor base is an external building, with landscaping creating secure outdoor provision intended to connect to it. That arrangement gives indoor and outdoor activity distinct spaces within the nursery’s own area. The nursery building is fully accessible, an important practical feature for children with mobility needs.
Morning, afternoon and full-day attendance formed the session choices for the 2024-25 provision. The morning ran from 08:45 to 11:45, the afternoon from 12:00 to 15:00, and the full day from 08:45 to 15:00. These patterns gave families a choice between a shorter session and a day spanning both parts of the timetable.
For a child with additional needs, the school office is the initial contact before starting. The special educational needs coordinator can then arrange a conversation or meeting. This gives families a route to discuss their child’s needs before joining.
Across the school, three staff hold full paediatric first-aid certification compliant with EYFS requirements, and all staff have safeguarding training. Children with medical conditions have individual care plans shared with staff; medicines are stored securely and administered by designated staff. These are school-wide arrangements relevant to discussing a nursery child’s care.
The nursery building’s accessibility sits within a more challenging wider site: the school grounds have several levels, and the field is reached by a steep slope. Access beyond the nursery. Families with mobility needs should factor those changes in level into their choice.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer priority under the 2026/2027 admission arrangements. Families must make a separate application through the normal process. Hertfordshire County Council manages Reception applications online, so choosing this nursery and applying for Reception are separate decisions.
Where children need additional help with a class change, the school can create an individual transition plan, including extra classroom or teacher visits. That support addresses familiarity and individual needs; it does not alter admission rules.
For 2024-25, funded provision covered 15 hours over 38 term-time weeks, with an additional 15 hours for qualifying families. Additional sessions depended on space and required advance agreement. Alternative collection or drop-off times were restricted to medical appointments. Contact the school office on 0208 075 9857 for nursery enquiries and current charges.
