Music, outdoor choices and a story before home give Chadsmoor Community Nursery its character: children have time to choose activities, alongside short sessions together. It belongs to Chadsmoor Community Infants and Nursery School on Kingsway in Cannock, with 52 nursery places. The usual start is September after a child's third birthday; spare places can allow one or two additional terms beforehand.
Early years provision received a Good judgement at the Ofsted inspection on 27 and 28 February 2024. Children got off to a strong start in Nursery, with communication and language given particular attention. That makes learning to express themselves a central part of the experience.
Choice and group activity alternate through the session. Children register themselves, prepare for breakfast and move into Child Choice Time. Tidying follows, then Big Circle Time and Music Time. The rhythm gives children opportunities to pursue their own interests and join shared activities.
Outdoor activity has a distinct place in the routine: children plan before another period of choosing outdoors. Letters & Sounds Time follows, with a story and refreshments towards home time. These are short, separate parts of the session, rather than a morning or afternoon spent on one activity. Friday is Nursery's PE day, adding another practical consideration when getting children ready.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) puts communication, curiosity and growing independence into the nursery learning picture here. In February 2024, children showed enthusiasm for learning and explored with interest and independence. Expectations for behaviour started from the beginning of their school experience. For parents, the emphasis is on how children participate and communicate, alongside the named story, sound and music activities.
Preparation can begin at home. The nursery encourages families to look through pictures together and discuss what children can see, helping the new surroundings become familiar before starting. Breakfast preparation and refreshments also form part of the nursery routine.
A nursery manager sits within an early years team that includes welfare and inclusion support roles. Across the federation, SEND coordinators provide a contact for families discussing additional needs. This gives parents a route into conversations about support, rather than leaving concerns until the child starts.
Class Dojo connects parents and staff through messages, news and children's achievements. It gives families a way to keep up with activities and communicate between face-to-face conversations.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must complete a separate Reception application, with places allocated by Staffordshire School Admissions Service against its admissions criteria. Applications can be made online.
Treat that application as a separate task even when your child already attends Nursery. Familiarity with the school does not replace the application process.
Morning nursery sessions run from 8.40am to 11.40am; afternoon sessions run from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Full-time and part-time places are offered for the academic year. The morning activity routine has different start and finish times, so agree the attendance pattern and collection time when arranging a place.
Nursery applications go through the school, and forms can be submitted from birth. Waiting lists occur, making an early application useful for families planning ahead. For enquiries, contact Infantoffice2@chadsmoorfed.staffs.sch.uk or telephone 01543 227200, option 1.
Name clothing and send children in PE kit on Friday. Crested School Wear Cannock supplies uniform. These small preparations help keep belongings identifiable and children ready for their activities.
The usual entry is September after their third birthday. If places are available, children may be able to attend for one or two additional terms beforehand.
Morning sessions are 8.40am to 11.40am and afternoon sessions are 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Agree the morning collection time when arranging attendance, because the activity routine uses different timings.
