Nursery at All Saints Carshalton Church of England Primary School

Owlets, Ducklings and Cygnets give this nursery its own identity within All Saints Carshalton Church of England Primary School. Nursery and primary provision share the Rotherfield Road site in Carshalton. For the 2026/27 nursery intake, the eligible birth dates run from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023.
Up to 26 children can attend each morning or afternoon session. Christian values shape the school’s stated ethos, and participation in Christian worship and religious education is expected. Families choosing the nursery should be comfortable with that religious character as part of their child’s education.
Two three-hour sessions structure the nursery day: mornings run from 8.45am to 11.45am, with afternoons from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Children taking the 30-hour provision also have a 45-minute lunchtime session between them, making lunch a practical distinction between the attendance patterns.
In October 2024, children in early years worked on the small hand movements needed for writing and on beginning to write. The same inspection found that some pupils across the school needed more handwriting and spelling practice and support; this was a school-wide concern rather than a nursery-specific finding. These are foundations for handling a pencil and developing written communication, rather than a reason to expect formal written work from the outset.
Packed lunches are required each day for children using the 30-hour provision. Lunchtime staffing is charged separately from government-funded provision, so families need to plan both the lunch itself and the additional charge.
For concerns about additional needs, the first contact is the child’s class teacher, followed by the SENCo. The school’s SEND arrangements include support plans developed with parents and termly meetings to review progress. Possible communication support includes WellComm, Makaton signing and visual prompts; provision is selected according to the child’s needs.
Physical access across the school includes a lift, an accessible toilet and ramps, including one at the Talbot Road entrance. These are useful concrete features for families considering mobility needs. However, the October 2024 school inspection identified inconsistent adjustments to teaching for some pupils, including those with SEND; this was a school-wide concern rather than a nursery-specific finding. Families with additional needs should discuss how support will work for their child.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and carries no nursery-attendance priority under the 2026/27 Reception arrangements. A separate application goes through the London Borough of Sutton Admissions Department. For the 2026/27 Reception cycle, parents had to return the local authority’s Common Application Form by 15 January and include All Saints among their preferences. That cycle’s deadline has passed.
For children with SEND, the school’s transition arrangements include a Pupil Passport prepared with parents, social stories and individual walk-throughs. These help children prepare for a change of class. They are support measures, separate from the decision about admission.
The governors intend to offer up to a maximum of 20 government-funded 30-hour places, with the exact number at the headteacher’s discretion. An offer depends on a valid eligibility code that the school can verify. If verification fails, the offer can be withdrawn, and an alternative 15-hour session may not be possible.
The lunchtime staffing charge for the 30-hour provision remains payable during absence and is non-refundable. Contact the school for current charges. Nursery applications use the school’s application form, obtainable through the office; enquiries can go to office@allsaintscarshalton.sutton.sch.uk or 020 8401 0075. Permanent withdrawal requires two weeks’ written notice.
Morning nursery runs from 8.45am to 11.45am. Afternoon nursery runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

No. Parents must apply separately through Sutton, and nursery attendance does not confer priority under the 2026/27 Reception arrangements.
Children using the 30-hour provision need a packed lunch each day. Lunchtime staffing attracts a separate charge, payable even during absence.
Speak to the child’s class teacher first. The SENCo can provide further information and discuss support.
