Starfish has a school-day rhythm: four longer days followed by a shorter Friday. This is Stanley Park Infants School’s nursery in Carshalton, with a published admission number of 26 for children aged 3-4. Places are for families eligible for the extended 30 hours of free childcare for working parents.
At the Ofsted inspection on 13 and 14 December 2022, the school’s early years provision was judged Outstanding. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separate nursery inspection.
Language, emotional development, early mathematics and reading give the early years curriculum its shape. In December 2022, children developed their understanding exceptionally well across the learning areas. The emphasis was on securing ideas through practice, giving children repeated opportunities to use what they had learned.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) brings these strands together: learning to communicate and manage feelings sits alongside the beginnings of reading and mathematics. Practice with different resources and in varied contexts helped consolidate learning in December 2022, supported by the layout of early years classrooms. Repetition had a purpose. It helped children build understanding through more than one encounter with an idea, rather than simply moving on to the next activity.
Familiar routines supported settling in December 2022: early years children adjusted quickly and approached learning positively. Emotional development received specific attention alongside language, making feelings and communication part of the learning day.
Zones of Regulation is used across all classes. Teachers, support staff and senior leaders have training in the approach, which gives children language for recognising feelings and strategies for managing them. The school aims to help children recognise changes in their emotions and respond with greater confidence.
Parents can raise concerns about their child’s progress or needs with the class teacher or Inclusion Leader. That gives families a direct starting point for discussing additional support. The school also adopts the Sutton SEND Charter.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority for one at Stanley Park Infants School. Parents must make a separate application through the normal Reception process. Plan for that application independently of the nursery place.
Reception admissions are coordinated by the local authority. For September 2026 entry, applications went online through Sutton Council, with a closing date of 15 January 2026. That deadline belongs to that admissions cycle.
Monday to Thursday runs from 8.40am to 3.10pm. Friday finishes at 1.05pm; the current timetable gives an 8.40am start and a paid extension to 3.15pm. The nursery operates during term time. Ask the school for current charges for the additional Friday care.
Places in breakfast and after-school care can also be applied for, but only after a nursery offer has been accepted. This is an additional application, so families needing care beyond nursery hours should factor it into their arrangements.
Holiday cover. The school has a two-week October half-term. For 2026, it runs from 19 to 30 October, creating a longer autumn break to cover for families using term-time childcare.
Autumn open mornings are led by a senior member of staff. General enquiries go to the school office on 020 8647 9322 or office@stanleyparkinfants.co.uk.
