Nursery at Lyne and Longcross CofE Aided Primary School

An enclosed woodland beside the school field gives this nursery a distinctive outdoor setting. Forest School is part of the provision at Lyne and Longcross, with a site reserved for the school’s use and space for children to explore. It brings learning beyond the classroom into the nursery picture.
The nursery belongs to the Church of England primary school in Lyne, Chertsey, and includes provision for two-year-olds. The school welcomes families with different religious beliefs and those with none. Its Christian values are respect, courage and faith: families are choosing a nursery within that wider school identity.
Forest School gives outdoor learning a concrete home. The woodland is enclosed, lies next to the school field and contains a fire pit used during sessions. Regular Forest School sessions extend across the school’s age groups, making exploration outdoors part of its approach to learning.
Early Years Foundation Stage learning includes practical investigation. In design and technology, children explore how things work, make things and explain their choices. First-hand experiences encourage them to observe, tackle problems and make decisions. For a parent, that means learning includes doing and talking through an idea, rather than simply completing a finished task.
Little Wandle is the named phonics scheme used across the EYFS to develop early reading skills. The curriculum also needs a clear sequence. In February 2024, the early years curriculum needed greater precision about the knowledge, skills and learning habits children should develop. This is a useful point to keep in view alongside the practical activities: what children learn through an experience matters as much as the experience itself.
Settling receives direct attention from nursery staff. In February 2024, staff helped children become comfortable in nursery and develop confidence from the beginning. That matters for young children making their first separation from familiar adults.
For additional needs, the school’s support process involves discussion with parents, assessment and planning by staff, with outside professionals involved when appropriate. Individual SEND Support Plans are discussed with families at meetings, giving parents a concrete role in reviewing provision. Support can change with budget limits and policy review. The SENCo is available Monday to Wednesday, with email contact through senco@lyne.surrey.sch.uk.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Surrey County Council’s online school admissions route. Treat that application as a distinct step from joining nursery.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. The nursery decision and the Reception application remain separate decisions for families.
