Nursery at Lovelace Primary School

Listening comes before reading at Lovelace: nursery children learn to distinguish sounds around them, while adults build vocabulary with words such as delicious, segment and peel. These small exchanges give the nursery a clear emphasis on language, helping children prepare for later phonics learning.
For children aged three to four, this is the nursery within Lovelace Primary School in Chessington. Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at its inspection on 10 and 11 December 2024. That judgement covers early years across the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Families can choose a morning or afternoon session, with full-time options also offered. The shorter sessions give the day a defined three-hour shape. Within that time, sound recognition and adult-led vocabulary development provide concrete examples of nursery learning: children practise listening carefully and encounter precise words they can use themselves.
Personal and social learning also starts early. In December 2024, children in early years responded well to adults' expectations and behaved extremely well; teaching children to handle their feelings began in early years too. This places emotional development alongside the language work.
The wider school site includes an orchard, allotments and a wildlife area with a woodland trail and bird hide. These are school facilities, rather than a description of the nursery's own outdoor space. They give useful context to the grounds surrounding the provision.
School organisation includes year-group teams with a leader responsible for pastoral care and learning. For SEND concerns, families can reach the SENCO, whose role also includes leadership of inclusion, through the school office. This gives parents a direct route for discussing their child's needs.
Food brought into school must exclude both sesame and nuts. That restriction matters when preparing anything a child takes with them. Communication beyond individual conversations includes school newsletters sent fortnightly, carrying reminders, events and curriculum updates.
Attending Lovelace's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process. Kingston residents use eAdmissions; families living elsewhere apply through their own council.
For the September 2026 intake, applications closed on 15 January 2026. That deadline has passed and belongs to that intake. Keep the nursery application and the Reception application as separate tasks: familiarity with the school does not replace applying for a place.
Morning nursery runs from 8.45am to 11.45am; the afternoon runs from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Alongside the universal 15-hour offer, the school offers funded full-time places under the 30-hour entitlement for three- and four-year-olds, from 9.15am to 3.15pm. Paid options include an additional 2.5 hours per week starting at 8.45am and a 35-hour full-time place. Contact the office for current charges and place options; nursery application forms are requested directly from the school.
Uniform applies to nursery children. The clothing list includes a white polo shirt, black trousers or skirt, and a burgundy cardigan or sweatshirt bearing the gold school logo.
Travel restrictions. During term time, the School Streets zone operates Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Mansfield Road and Devon Way are included, so plan morning drop-off and afternoon collection around the restriction on driving into the zone.
