An outdoor wooded area gives Beechbuds a distinctive feature within Eccleston Primary School. This is the school's own nursery provision on Doctors Lane in Eccleston, with sessions for two-year-olds and three-year-olds. The age distinction matters: longer hours become available from a child's third birthday.
Morning and afternoon sessions sit either side of a separate lunch break, giving families a clear structure for planning attendance. Children can attend a morning from 08:45 to 11:45 or an afternoon from 12:15 to 15:15; lunch occupies 11:45 to 12:15. Booking is for complete sessions, so the pattern needs to fit family routines.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) includes learning how to participate alongside other children. In February 2023, nursery children were learning to wait for their turn, support one another and follow everyday routines, while adults demonstrated courteous conversation. These are practical foundations for sharing a learning space.
Early reading also has a place in the day. In February 2023, children in the early years joined enthusiastically in stories they recognised, and phonics began on entry to the early years. Familiar stories give children a way to participate before they can read independently. Outdoors, Beechbuds has its wooded area, adding a physical feature to consider when choosing the setting.
Children adapted readily to both the nursery and the provision for two-year-olds in February 2023. Alongside that settling picture, the school's Early Years Leader has responsibilities for phonics, oracy and early reading, connecting leadership of the provision with children's communication and literacy.
Lunch gives families a choice. Children may bring food from home or have a purchased school lunch, with lunch payments made ahead through ParentPay. This allows families to choose the arrangement that suits them.
Accessibility is a concrete consideration here: the school occupies a single-level site, with broad doorways, step-free internal access and an accessible toilet. Parents of children with disabilities are encouraged to discuss adjustments before admission, allowing the school to plan for their needs.
Attending Beechbuds does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Lancashire primary admissions process and meet the deadline for their child's admission year.
Occasional shared activities offer a connection with Reception separately from admission. Beechbuds children can be invited to join special events, with a mobile farm or a T-Rex encounter given as examples. Participation carries an extra charge and is optional; families can tell the office if they prefer to decline.
From their third birthday, children can use an early session between 07:45 and 08:45 and a late session between 15:15 and 17:45. Funded hours can be used between 08:45 and 15:15 for two-year-olds, or between 07:45 and 17:45 for three-year-olds.
Early Years Education Funding covers up to 15 hours weekly, or up to 30 for families qualifying for the working family element, across 38 weeks each year. Funding starts in the term following the third birthday, or the second where applicable. Unfunded attendance and hours beyond the entitlement are charged. Late collection can also attract a charge, as can attendance where a required funding code or eligibility reconfirmation is missing.
