Nursery at Elliston Primary Academy

Conversation gives Elliston’s early years its character: adults introduce new words, then help children use them through carefully chosen questions. In December 2024, the early years provision gave children individual support and encouraged positive attitudes towards learning. Language matters here.
The nursery belongs to Elliston Primary Academy on Elliston Street in Cleethorpes. Children can start in the term following their third birthday and remain until the academic year in which they turn four ends. Part-time and full-time attendance provide different ways to fit nursery around family life.
Language development has a clear purpose. In December 2024, adults extended children’s vocabulary through conversation and questioning, while decisions about subsequent learning reflected what children needed. This gives talking a teaching role: children practise expressing themselves while developing their understanding.
Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In parent language, this brings together movement, relationships and communication with early reading, maths, creative expression and discovering how the world works. It is a framework for development across connected areas, rather than a timetable of separate school subjects.
Named themes add context. During 2025/2026, nursery learning included Megastructures, Tell Me A Story and Footprints In The Past. These give families specific starting points for discussing learning together. Shared experiences also featured: a Dinosaur Stomp for nursery and Reception was scheduled for 17 April 2026.
Starting can be gradual. A child’s intake may extend across two or more weeks, and a home visit may take place before attendance begins. Both arrangements allow an introduction before the full routine takes hold; neither is an automatic promise for every child.
For special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the class teacher is the first contact for concerns. Support follows Assess, Plan, Do, Review: staff examine needs, agree actions with parents, put them into practice and revisit their impact at least termly. Parents therefore have a role in shaping support as well as discussing progress.
Practical adjustments can include visual timetables, extra processing time and individual work. The wider school building is mainly on one level, with a lift serving the first floor and doorways accommodating wheelchairs. These are useful details for families considering physical access.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through North East Lincolnshire’s admissions department and follow the normal admissions procedure. Treat that application as a separate task from accepting a nursery place.
Transition support is a different matter. Nursery staff work with Reception colleagues to prepare the move, including when a child is going to another school. Reports and agreed records can be transferred, helping the receiving team understand the child rather than starting afresh.
Morning nursery runs from 8:45am to 11:45am; afternoon attendance is 12:15pm to 3:15pm. The full day spans 8:45am to 3:15pm. These choices distinguish a short session from care across the school day.
The part-time funded pattern is 15 hours each week across 38 weeks. Eligible families can use the extended 30-hour entitlement, supplying their eligibility code in the preceding term. Parents can also pay to extend a 15-hour place to all-day attendance; contact the school for current charges.
Enquiries go through the school office on 01472 235116 or office@ellistonprimary.co.uk. An appointment can be arranged for a nursery and Foundation Stage Unit tour. Nursery uniform includes a white polo shirt and purple logo sweatshirt or cardigan; joggers are permitted. Donated uniform is accessible through the office.
Children can join in the term after their third birthday, with September, January and April intakes.
Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am, afternoons from 12:15pm to 3:15pm, and full days from 8:45am to 3:15pm.
