A start from age two puts Yeo Moor's nursery at the beginning of a longer school journey in Clevedon. The Nursery and Pre-school opened in January 2024 and belongs to Yeo Moor Primary School, part of Futura Learning Partnership. Its teaching team includes nursery and pre-school teachers, giving this provision a distinct place within the school's staff structure.
Play, exploration and growing independence shape Yeo Moor's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) approach. In plain parent language, adults look at how children engage with people and their surroundings, try things out and develop their thinking. The school aims to build confidence and an appetite for learning through this work.
Adult-led activities form part of the EYFS curriculum. Observation also matters: adults use what they notice about a child's learning to decide an appropriate next step. That makes the child's stage of development relevant to planning, rather than treating progress as a single pace for everyone.
The Leuven Scale adds an emotional dimension. Adults use this five-point measure to assess involvement and wellbeing, including when children first start and later in the year. It gives attention to how a child feels about an activity as well as what they can do.
The wider school grounds contain woodland, nature areas and an allotment garden, alongside a willow story circle. These are features of the school site. They give families a concrete sense of the outdoor setting surrounding the nursery.
Tapestry connects the EYFS learning record with home. Adults capture observations digitally, while parents can respond and contribute experiences from family life. This creates a practical way for home experiences to become part of the conversation about a child's development.
Development Matters helps adults relate those observations to developmental stages. Alongside the Leuven Scale's attention to wellbeing and involvement, this gives the EYFS team more than one way to consider a child's needs. Yeo Moor also has a special educational needs coordinator, providing a school contact for families discussing additional needs.
Attending Yeo Moor's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery entry and Reception admission are separate processes: families must apply again through the normal Reception admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Treat that application as a separate task when planning your child's next step.
The school office handles enquiries by telephone on 01275 875607 or by email at office@yeomoorprimaryschool.org.uk. The school is on Kennaway Road in Clevedon, BS21 6JL.
