At the June 2023 inspection, snail observation, woodwork and mud kitchen recipes gave Aldermoor Farm’s nursery a practical character. Children explored living things, used a hammer and tried recipes through play. This is the nursery within Aldermoor Farm Primary School on Acorn Street in Coventry, rather than a separate childcare setting.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at its inspection on 20 and 21 June 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. The strongest nursery-specific detail is the learning environment, with resources indoors and outside supporting both learning and interaction between children.
Hands-on activity gives children something concrete to explore. In June 2023, nursery learning included watching snails, using a hammer at the woodwork station and trying recipes in the mud kitchen. These examples show different ways into learning: close observation, practical making and imaginative activity. They also give children something to discuss with adults and friends.
The indoor and outdoor spaces supported children’s interests and social learning. For a parent, the useful distinction is that the environment serves more than physical play: materials and activities give children opportunities to interact while exploring something that interests them. The woodwork station and mud kitchen are specific examples of that approach.
Language development. In June 2023, adults sometimes let chances to extend vocabulary and conversation pass. Some children consequently made slower progress in communication than they should. The improvement action was for every early years adult to understand how to strengthen children’s language. Adult conversation alongside practical activity therefore matters as much as the resources themselves.
Children learn how to treat one another through adults’ example. In June 2023, adults demonstrated considerate behaviour, helping children use polite behaviour with friends. This connects care with ordinary play: learning alongside other children includes learning how to interact with them.
For SEND enquiries, the school provides a dedicated email address, send@afprimary.org.uk. That gives families a direct contact route for discussing their child’s needs.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Choosing the nursery and applying for the next stage are separate decisions; a nursery place should never be treated as confirmation of a later school place.
Contact the school office on 02476 456272 or email admin@afprimary.org.uk for nursery enquiries. The school address is Acorn Street, Coventry, CV3 1DP.
The school’s general uniform includes a red cardigan or sweatshirt, a white blouse or polo shirt, and grey or black trousers or a skirt. Badged knitwear is optional. Families can buy plain items from high street shops or supermarkets, so branded clothing is not essential under the school’s general policy.
A preloved uniform service also operates through the family support team. Clothing is put out on the playground towards each half-term’s end for families to take home without payment, providing a practical way to reuse schoolwear.
