Nursery at Courthouse Green Primary School

Conversation gives this nursery its character: even the youngest children were sustaining their attention while adults turned everyday activity into learning in July 2023. Courthouse Green Primary School has one nursery class, with provision for two- to four-year-olds, on Sewall Highway in Coventry.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Outstanding at the inspection on 3 and 4 July 2023. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Adult interaction is a defining feature of the early years day. In July 2023, staff chose their moments to join children's activity, developing conversations and extending learning. The youngest children could concentrate on what they were doing. For parents, the significant detail is the attention paid to learning through ordinary exchanges, rather than only through a planned teaching activity.
Forest School adds a different setting for exploration. Sessions use a garden with partial woodland, bringing children into contact with natural materials. Trained Forest School leaders run the provision, with opportunities involving tools and cooking over a fire. Across the school, children have an entitlement to a block of six weekly sessions. The school aims to build independence and confidence through these experiences, giving outdoor learning a practical purpose alongside discovering the natural world.
Additional needs have a clear route for discussion: start with the child's class teacher, with the SENCo coordinating support. Before a child joins, the school contacts parents and relevant agencies to understand their needs. This gives families an opportunity to share information that can shape the child's support from the outset.
SEND support follows a cycle of identifying needs, planning, putting support into practice and reviewing it. Parents help agree adjustments and interventions, alongside a review date. Formal meetings are offered three times during the school year, and families can request an earlier discussion. The practical benefit is a continuing conversation about whether the arrangements are helping, with scope to change them.
Thrive provides another route for emotional support. The school has six licensed practitioners and a trainer, and uses the approach to help children recognise and express feelings. Families can discuss individual or family Thrive support with the team.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority's normal admissions process and meet its deadline; Coventry City Council makes decisions about the school's September Reception intake.
For the 2026/2027 admissions year, nursery attendance confers no priority. A child attending nursery also does not count as an attending sibling for another child's application. These distinctions matter when planning ahead: choosing the nursery and securing a Reception place are separate decisions.
Morning nursery sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am; afternoon sessions run from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Full-time sessions are also available, giving families an alternative to a single morning or afternoon session.
