Nursery at St Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School

An 8.40am start and an 11.40am finish give St Elizabeth's nursery a clear morning shape. It belongs to the Catholic primary school in Foleshill, Coventry, so families choosing it are also choosing a school setting with a religious identity.
The school says it welcomes children from different faiths and backgrounds. Ofsted judged its early years provision Good at the inspection on 30 and 31 January 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school.
Early reading has a place in the early years curriculum. In January 2024, phonics teaching in early years was of high quality: children were beginning to learn how sounds support reading. This gives families a concrete indication of the learning emphasis alongside the morning timetable.
For children with additional needs, the school's support arrangements give parents a defined role. The SENDCo coordinates help and the class teacher takes responsibility for progress. Families can raise concerns with either, discuss the next steps and receive a written record of the conversation. This creates a shared starting point for support.
Progress reviews happen termly, using a cycle of assessing needs, planning help, putting it into practice and reviewing its effect. Parents meet the class teacher to discuss progress; the SENDCo may join them. Agreed actions are recorded and shared with families and relevant staff, keeping decisions connected to classroom practice.
Support can include shorter steps in learning, extra time to think and movement breaks. Teachers receive training within the school, with Makaton and Emotion Coaching among the training topics. Where needed, the school seeks specialist advice, including from speech and language therapists and the Complex Communication Team. These are school support arrangements rather than a description of nursery staffing.
Physical access also receives attention across the school: ramps and adapted furniture are among its adjustments for children with disabilities. Food safety has a practical rule for families too. Nut products are prohibited for children, staff and visitors, and families whose children have allergies complete an allergy form.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate steps.
There is a different process for children with an education, health and care plan (EHCP). Changes of setting are coordinated through the annual review, and the Statutory Assessment and Review Team (START) asks families for school preferences instead of a usual admissions application.
For pupils with SEN changing classes, the school's transition arrangements include a final meeting involving the current and next teacher, plus information about the new class to use over the summer. This is preparation for change, separate from allocation of a place.
The nursery session runs from 8.40am to 11.40am. That finish matters when planning childcare around work or other commitments.
