Nursery at Eastlea Primary School

A 39-place nursery within a primary school gives Eastlea’s youngest children a connection with the wider school from the start. Older pupils play with nursery children, bringing contact across age groups into their experience. This is the school’s own nursery provision in Cramlington, with children starting in the term following their third birthday.
Entry happens through nursery intakes rather than automatically on a birthday. For families, that makes the term of starting the useful planning point. The nursery sits within Eastlea Primary School on Skipton Close, Northburn Lea.
Half-day attendance and full days provide two different shapes to the nursery experience. The standard 15-hour provision uses mornings from Monday to Friday, with afternoon attendance for younger children in the spring and summer intakes. Eligible parents can use 30-hour provision through full days at school. The distinction matters when matching nursery attendance to family routines.
Play also brings nursery children into contact with older pupils.
Settling begins before the starting term. An introductory session or meeting takes place before the end of the preceding term, allowing children and parents to become familiar with nursery life together. That gives the family an initial shared experience before regular attendance begins.
For special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), Eastlea aims to combine support from its staff and resources with help from external services and agencies. Families can raise SEND questions or concerns with the school’s SEND coordinator by telephone on 01670 732261. Having a specific role to contact gives parents a direct route for discussing their child’s support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must make a separate application through the normal school admissions process, meeting the normal deadline. Northumberland County Council is the route for school admissions, and every parent must express a school preference, including families already attending Eastlea’s nursery and those living in its catchment.
Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate tasks. Familiarity with Eastlea through nursery attendance does not remove the need to apply again.
Nursery enquiries go to the school, and application forms can be obtained from the office. Completed forms are returned directly to Eastlea by email or in person and organised by intake in the order received. The school office also handles enquiries about eligibility for the 30-hour provision.
Before nursery age, Owlets Toddler Group provides another connection with Eastlea. It meets in the school hall on term-time Thursday mornings, from 9am to 10.30am, giving younger children opportunities to socialise before nursery starts. Parents, carers and childminders can attend with them.
