Twenty-six nursery places make up Gainsborough’s first class: an early starting point within the academy on Belgrave Road in Crewe. The nursery belongs to the school itself, so families are choosing a school-based beginning rather than a separate childcare setting.
Gainsborough describes its No Outsiders ethos as celebrating difference and helping everyone feel welcome. That gives families a clear statement of the school culture surrounding the nursery. Ofsted’s whole-school rating is Good; this is not a separate nursery inspection outcome.
Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe are the school’s Golden Rules. Their practical meaning includes sharing, listening, using good manners and telling an adult about feeling unsafe. These are concrete expectations for learning alongside other children, rather than abstract statements about behaviour.
For 2024–2025, the school’s early years foundation stage (EYFS) priorities included building foundations in literacy and maths and adapting teaching to pupils’ needs. In parent language, the emphasis was on the beginnings of reading, writing and number. These were school aims for that period, rather than evidence of a particular nursery session routine or teaching outcome.
Before children join the school full time, an induction programme includes visits. Parents are invited to take part and discuss information about their child. This creates an opportunity to explain needs and family circumstances before the child starts, with the school aiming to help children feel secure.
Additional needs have a direct discussion route. The school’s SEND team works with families, the class teacher and the child, involving outside agencies when it considers their advice beneficial. Some children with high levels of need may have a curriculum adapted to their individual needs.
Friday’s SENDCo drop-in runs from 8:45am to 9:15am in the Community Room beside the main office. No appointment is needed. For families wanting a telephone conversation or a longer meeting, the school office can arrange contact. That gives parents both a brief, regular opportunity to raise concerns and a route to a fuller discussion.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal local-authority process. Cheshire East residents use its online application route; families living elsewhere in England apply through their home local authority, even when choosing a Cheshire East school.
For September 2026 entry, the Reception application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle has passed. Keep the Reception application separate from nursery registration when planning the next stage.
The School Office handles nursery registration and enquiries. Contact it on 01270 696810 or email admin@gainsborough.cheshire.sch.uk. The nursery has 26 places, so registration is the practical first step for families considering this school-based provision.
For term-time absence requests, speak to the school office. This also gives families a clear contact point for that aspect of attendance planning.
