Three session choices give Haslington’s nursery a clear practical shape: a morning, an afternoon or a day running from 9am to 3pm. Care and education are for children aged from 2 years to 5 years, within Haslington Primary Academy on Crewe Road in Haslington. This is the school’s own nursery provision, so families are choosing an early years setting within a primary school.
A morning session runs from 9am to 12pm; the afternoon takes over from 12pm to 3pm. Choosing 9am to 3pm means attendance spans both parts of the nursery day. Those options let families choose between a shorter session and a longer block of care and education.
In May 2023, the early years curriculum was carefully planned, with staff identifying the knowledge children needed for their later learning. That gives the learning a clear purpose: activities contribute to what children understand as they progress. Books also have a place in that experience. In early years, adults introduced children to varied literature, giving them encounters with different texts during their early learning.
Support for additional needs has a direct route for parents. The school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) works with families and class teachers, and outside agencies may contribute advice when this would benefit a child. The school aims to make its environment accessible and to value children equally.
Every Thursday, parents can attend a SENDCo drop-in from 8:45am to 9:15am in the IT Suite, reached through the main school entrance. No appointment is needed. This gives families a regular opportunity for a brief discussion about additional needs. A telephone conversation or longer meeting can be arranged through the school office.
Across year groups, support includes resources and strategies for learning needs as well as emotional, behavioural and social needs. Some children with high levels of need may have a curriculum tailored to them, so the approach can respond to individual requirements.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the normal deadline. Treat choosing nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions: attending here must not be taken as confirmation of a later school place.
The nursery opens for 38 weeks each year and operates five days a week. Its core hours are 9am to 3pm, with the three session choices described above.
Wraparound care. Children aged 3+ can access nursery wraparound care. The school office handles further details, making this the enquiry route for families who need care beyond their chosen nursery session.
