Covered play spaces, a sensory room outdoors and woodland on site give Suffield Park Nursery an outdoor emphasis. Children spend most of their session outside. That is the clearest distinguishing feature of this nursery within the grounds of Suffield Park Infant and Nursery School in Cromer.
The purpose-built nursery takes children from 8 weeks old until school entry and provides day care across 48 weeks of the year. Its age range therefore extends well below the preschool years. The school’s early years provision was graded Good at the Ofsted inspection of 19 and 20 November 2024; that judgement covers early years within the school inspection.
Outdoor learning occupies much of the session rather than being a brief break between indoor activities. Alongside the covered areas, children have bike tracks, woodland and substantial spaces for outdoor play. These give movement and exploration room in the day. The outdoor sensory room adds a different kind of space to that mix.
Books provide another thread. The nursery’s Power of Reading selections include Biscuit Bear and The Train Ride for N1, with Astro Girl and Billy’s Bucket among the N2 choices. Teaching starts from selected texts, giving stories a role in what children explore and learn.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) approach includes discussion, play and practical experiences, supported by Birth to 5. Children explore people, places and their own experiences as part of understanding the world. Music combines sessions led by adults with opportunities to explore indoors and outside. For parents, this means learning includes conversation, stories, movement and musical exploration, rather than only activities at a table.
The nursery says it gives children’s wellbeing and emotional understanding high priority. It also aims to build relationships with families as part of supporting learning. That gives parents a clear place in its approach to care.
Staff roles include a nursery manager with SEND coordination responsibilities, room leaders, practitioners and nursery assistants. A Parent Support Advisor has a social work degree, while the manager holds a degree in Early Childhood Studies. The team also includes a practitioner with a Child & Young Person Mental Health Champion role. These are useful points of contact for conversations about development, additional needs and family support.
Attending Suffield Park Nursery does not guarantee a Reception place at Suffield Park Infant and Nursery School. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. The school follows Norfolk County Council’s admissions policy. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions.
The nursery opens for 48 weeks each year. Eligible working families with children from 9 months old can use funding for 30 hours a week across 38 weeks, or stretch it to 23.75 hours weekly across the nursery’s 48 weeks, subject to availability. Funding begins in the term after the qualifying age. Working entitlement codes require renewal every 3 months and must be valid at the start of the relevant term.
Universal funding provides 15 hours for children aged 3 and 4, with a Parent Claim Form completed through the nursery. Ask the nursery about current charges. For general and finance enquiries, email nursery@suffieldpark.norfolk.sch.uk or telephone 01263 519325.
