Nursery at Beddington Park Academy

A nursery building beside Beddington Park gives this provision a distinct physical identity within Beddington Park Academy. Its grounds sit on the park’s edge, while a dedicated nursery entrance runs through the Children’s Centre building. This is the academy’s own nursery, with children able to start in the term following their third birthday.
Families can choose a morning, afternoon or all-day place. That choice matters: a shorter session and a day spanning lunch make different demands on a young child and on family routines.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework for early learning. Here, that means carefully planned learning experiences with an emphasis on building children’s vocabulary. At the Ofsted inspection on 10 and 11 October 2023, early years provision was graded Outstanding, with carefully designed learning and vocabulary development identified as strengths. For parents, the useful detail is the emphasis on helping children encounter new words alongside learning experiences, rather than the grade alone.
Play has designated space, too. Nursery and Reception children have an area allocated for their break-time play, giving younger children a place within the school grounds for this part of the day. The nursery building and this play provision are concrete features to weigh alongside the session pattern.
Early years has an assistant headteacher with responsibility for EYFS, alongside an assistant headteacher responsible for inclusion and SEND coordination. These are distinct leadership responsibilities, giving families identifiable roles for discussions about early learning or additional needs.
For children staying all day, lunch can be a school dinner or food brought from home. Dinner payments go through Parentmail; contact the school for current charges. Catering is managed in-house across STEP Academy Trust, and menus identify the 14 key allergens. Recipes receive review from a registered dietitian.
Dietary needs. Meals cannot be individually tailored. Families must notify the academy office about a diagnosed food allergy or intolerance, making the menu choices and packed-lunch option relevant practical considerations.
A nursery place does not guarantee admission to Reception. Families must make a separate application through the website of their home local authority, meaning the authority to which they pay council tax, by the normal Reception application deadline.
Treat that application as a separate task from nursery enrolment. Being familiar with the school does not replace the application process, and accepting a nursery place should not be treated as securing the next stage.
Morning sessions run from 8.30am to 11.30am; afternoons run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. The All Day (30 Hour Session) runs from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Full-time places under the 30 Free Hours Childcare Allocation depend on meeting the current eligibility criteria.
Nursery applications go directly to the academy: collect a form from the main Academy Office and return it there. Visits are welcomed. Enquiries can go to office@beddingtonparkacademy.org or 020 8688 1390.
Nursery shoes need Velcro fastenings, and clothing should carry the child’s name. Use the nursery entrance through the Children’s Centre building, and accompany and supervise your child before school. These small arrangements deserve attention when planning the daily handover.
