Play, songs and Christian values give this 26-place nursery its character. Part of St Peter's Catholic Primary School on Goresbrook Road in Dagenham, it offers full-time and part-time places for children from age three. The nursery class marks the beginning of the school's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Ofsted judged early years provision Good at the inspection on 20 and 21 June 2023. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Learning through play shapes the curriculum. Children spend time in activities with the whole class, focused tasks guided by adults and activities they choose themselves. For parents, this means the EYFS combines opportunities to explore independently with teaching that has a particular learning purpose.
Language is a clear strength in the June 2023 early years findings: children enjoyed singing, listening to stories and joining in rhymes, while adults developed their communication skills effectively. These are useful foundations for expressing needs and joining conversations. Children also gained confidence with sharing and waiting for their turn, giving the day a social purpose alongside its learning activities.
Charanga provides the music scheme, with a lesson each week for every class, including Nursery. Activities encompass performing, listening and composing. The EYFS Christmas nativity gives music a place in a shared production too.
Weekly personal, social and health education uses Twinkl Life PSHE. Discussion and circle time give children opportunities to explore feelings and relationships. Religious education follows To know You more clearly, beginning in early years, so Catholic teaching forms part of the curriculum rather than simply the school's identity.
Adults model Christian values in their interactions with children. In June 2023, early years children followed instructions successfully and had established routines. Alongside the findings about sharing and confidence, this gives parents a picture of children learning how to participate in a group.
The school's SEND approach includes identifying needs early and assessing them through checks on children's progress. A SENCO works with the leadership team and governors on provision. For a family whose child needs additional support, this makes monitoring development part of the school's stated approach.
Lunch for EYFS runs from 11:45am to 12:45pm. The school also provides a Healthy Packed Lunch Guide. Parents can contact the safeguarding team with concerns about a child's welfare or safety.
A separate application matters. Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again, even when their child already attends the nursery.
For September 2027 entry, the school's admissions page gives an online application route through Barking and Dagenham at www.lbbd.gov.uk/admissions and a closing date of 14 January 2027. A Supplementary Information Form must also go to the school office; practising Catholic families must submit a Certificate of Catholic Practice. Keep these steps separate from choosing the nursery.
Funding covers 15 hours for all nursery children, with 30 hours for those who qualify. Families who do not qualify for the longer funded entitlement can take fee-paying places. Contact the school for current charges.
Nursery uniform has its own guidance. The approved suppliers are Castle Green Schoolwear and KhalsaSchoolwear, giving families specific places to purchase it.

No. Families must make a separate Reception application, including when their child already attends the nursery.
