Language gives this nursery its clearest character: children explore words with adults and build the foundations for reading through carefully planned learning. The provision belongs to Corporation Road Community Primary School on Corporation Road in Darlington. Funded nursery places for two-year-olds are offered, alongside morning, afternoon and 30-hour nursery patterns.
At the Ofsted inspection on 19 and 20 September 2023, early years provision was judged Outstanding. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The Early Years Framework guides nursery learning. Here, the clearest picture of that learning is the emphasis on language: in September 2023, adults gave children opportunities to explore language, with planned tasks helping them develop from their starting points. For parents, the useful distinction is that learning involves adult support as well as activities for children to tackle.
Early reading also received positive inspection findings that September. Sound teaching was consistent, children picked up the sounds they needed quickly, and adults supported their growing confidence and fluency in reading. These findings relate to early years as a whole. They give a concrete indication of the teaching children encounter before moving to their next stage.
Session choice changes the length of the nursery day. A morning runs from 8:40 to 11:40; an afternoon runs from 12:20 to 15:20. The 30-hour option starts at 8:40 and finishes at 14:40, bringing lunch into the daily arrangement.
For children attending the 30-hour pattern, lunch can be brought from home or taken as a paid school dinner. That gives families a choice between packing food themselves and arranging a school meal. Current dinner charges should be checked with the school.
The school aims to identify additional needs early and adapt learning to individual children. Its SEND aims include developing independence, monitoring progress and working with parents and outside professionals. For a family considering nursery with additional support needs, these are useful priorities to discuss together: how learning will be adapted and how parents will be involved.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. The application route is Darlington Borough Council's Primary School Application, administered through the local authority's coordinated arrangements.
Preparation for further learning is a separate question from admission. In September 2023, early years children were ready for their next learning stage. The language work and support for early reading provide the concrete educational context for that finding; they do not secure a place in the school.
Collection times. The 30-hour nursery finishes at 14:40, while afternoon nursery ends at 15:20. Families choosing between those patterns need to plan around the different finishing times.
