Communication and classroom routines give Ivanhoe’s early years its clearest character. In February 2025, children developed their language quickly and responded positively to high expectations. For a parent choosing a first school experience, those findings matter: learning to express needs and becoming familiar with routines are practical foundations for taking part in a group.
The nursery belongs to Conisbrough Ivanhoe Primary Academy on Old Road in Conisbrough. The academy’s provision starts at age three. Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good following the inspection on 25 and 26 February 2025. That judgement covers early years within the academy; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Purposeful learning is the strongest feature of the early years findings. In February 2025, the curriculum was thoughtfully planned and taught successfully, and children attained highly. Resources and activities were selected to build important skills. Those resources connected activities with the skills children were developing.
Language development also stood out. Children made rapid gains in communication, giving parents a concrete reason to look closely at this provision. Being able to explain an idea, join a conversation or ask for help matters throughout a nursery session. These are useful ways to understand the significance of the language finding, rather than promises about particular activities.
Behaviour supported learning too. During February 2025, early years children behaved positively and became familiar with appropriate routines. For families, this connects the curriculum with the daily experience: children were learning how to participate as well as developing their knowledge and skills.
Direct conversation with nursery adults was encouraged in 2020: parents could speak to the team about their child’s learning. That invitation put everyday questions about progress within a conversation with the people teaching the child. Two nursery teaching posts formed part of the September 2020 staffing structure.
The early years findings from February 2025 also give a useful picture of expectations. Children responded well to them and learned routines, linking adult guidance with participation in nursery life. Across the school, safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. This was a school-wide finding, rather than a separate assessment of nursery care.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Ivanhoe. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Choosing the nursery and applying for Reception are distinct decisions; a nursery place should never be treated as confirmation of the later school place.
