Forest Friday, Wednesday library visits and a bear carrying bedtime stories home give this nursery a distinctive weekly rhythm. Books and conversation run through it. Owston Park Primary Academy has a 78-place nursery within the school on Lodge Road in Skellow, Doncaster.
The nursery team includes teachers, a nursery nurse and a higher-level teaching assistant. At the Ofsted inspection on 25 and 26 April 2023, early years provision was graded Good. That judgement covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Speech and language shape the curriculum. Children encounter songs, nursery rhymes and stories from their starting point, while activities develop around their interests. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines learning about relationships, communication and movement with early literacy, mathematics, creativity and understanding the world. For parents, this means a child's development extends beyond letters and numbers.
Activities added to the ongoing learning provision follow children's interests while covering the EYFS framework. In April 2023, early years learning was planned to meet children's needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). There is a clear purpose behind the activities.
Forest Friday takes learning outdoors each week. Children need wellies and old clothes suited to the weather, making outdoor exploration part of the routine rather than an occasional outing. The school library provides another change of setting: every Wednesday, nursery children choose a book to share at home. Bring their book bag that day.
Barnaby Bear's Bedtime Stories extends that connection with families. One child each week takes the class bear home for a weekend that includes sharing favourite stories. Together, library borrowing and Barnaby give families concrete ways to continue the nursery's emphasis on books at home.
Walk-in Wednesdays let parents stay beside their child and join the play for the session's first 45 minutes. This gives families regular time to share activities, rather than relying entirely on a conversation at collection. In April 2023, early years teachers helped parents understand their children's learning, and parents valued the care children received.
Entry arrangements for the Foundation Stage include taster sessions, a parent information meeting, a home visit and contact with the child's existing setting. These offer several ways to build familiarity before the new routine begins.
For SEND concerns, start with your child's teacher or contact the SENCO through the office. The school's support arrangements include termly meetings with parents to agree outcomes and review progress. Speech and language therapists and the early years inclusion team are among the services the school can involve when needed. Support can therefore draw on expertise beyond the classroom.
Across the school, children choose meals day by day. Payment is made in advance through ParentPay; families should refer to the school for current charges.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Applications go through Doncaster Council, whose admission arrangements the academy follows. Treat that application as a separate step in your family's planning.
Transition support is a different matter from admission. Within the school's SEND arrangements, preparation for moving between year groups includes a meeting involving the current and next teacher, additional visits and a booklet or photographs to take home. These help children become familiar with change; they do not secure a place.
Since September 2026, morning nursery runs from 8:15am to 11:15am and afternoon nursery from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. Full-day options run from 8:15am to either 2:15pm or 3:15pm. The different finishing times matter when planning collection.

School uniform is encouraged: blue jumpers or cardigans go with white or light blue shirts and black or grey bottoms. Logo clothing is optional. Friday's outdoor clothing has its own practical purpose, so prepare wellies and weather-suitable old clothes alongside the usual school colours.
